EL GATO NEGRO: PREY
In this short film directed by Michael S Moore (Cornered) a young boy named Angel Reyes and his father Ramon are in grave danger when some of El Graduado’s men come to collect on some merchandise, and when those items come missing, only the return of a legendary Texas superhero can save them…
WHO IS EL GATO NEGRO?
The El Gato Negro comic book tells the story of Francisco Guerrero, a social worker by day, and a crime fighting vigilante at night who battles drug lords and criminals along the Texas border in the Rio Grande Valley. He was given his moniker by his grandfather Augustin, who was a luchador (Mexican Masked Wrestler) by the same name who also fought crime on the side back in the 70’s.
Augustin was originally going to pass the mantle to Francisco’s best friend Mario, but Mario, who was a border patrolman, was killed in the line of duty. Now Francisco battles the forces of the Texas/Mexico underworld and especially that of Boss Ochoa and his ruthless son Armando Ochoa, also known as El Graduado (The Graduate).
WHO ARE WE?
This production is made up of dedicated men and women who are also film fans who want to bring this hero to life!
El Gato Negro: Prey is written and directed by me, Michael S Moore, and I recently directed the web series Cornered, which was able to get into a few film festivals. I have the confidence and crew now to "take that next step". I had previously worked with Richard Dominguez, writing El Gato Negro: Legacy #1, and another series called Team Tejas, and so I know the character and world of El Gato Negro like the back of my hand!
Bobby Hernandez stars as Francisco Guerrero/El Gato Negro. Bobby’s other credits include From Dusk Til Dawn (TV Series) and Lazer Team (Rooster Teeth).
The fight choreography will be done by the talented Aaron Alexander (Cornered, Last Girl Standing) Our editing will be handled by Kenny Dodson, who has worked on such Hollywood films as Saving Mr. Banks, the Blind Side and We Bought a Zoo.
As a special treat, Richard Dominguez himself will be providing the Storyboards for this project!
THE IMPACT WE’RE GOING TO MAKE:
In a time where superheroes such as Captain America, Iron, Man, Superman, and Wonder Woman are dominating cinema, there hasn’t been any latino superheroes to share the screen. The only Hispanic characters in Superhero films are relegated to being sidekicks. It’s long overdue for a Hispanic hero to share the big screen.
There has been interest recently in this short film from representatives of Robert Rodriguez’ El Rey network, as well as Univision. The quality of this short film will go a long way to deciding if El Gato Negro will get his shot at the big screen or as a TV series, and whether we can get investors to fund an actual full-blown feature film!
WHAT WE NEED:
We are asking for $5,000 to make this short film. The film will be a 4-5 day shoot taking place in January 2016 with a few extra days for pickup shots, and travel to McAllen Texas, home of El Gato Negro, to get some extra footage. The funds are needed to create the costume, which will be a patchwork “training” costume for the hero himself, plus equipment rentals (camera, lights, prop weapons) so we can make this the best film we can, and pay to feed our awesome crew (who are all working on this for free!).
This also goes toward paying the post-production costs (the video and editing, as well as color grading) and generating the rewards.
Funds will also be devoted to film festivals and screenings! I hope to see you there!
WHAT PERKS/REWARDS DO WE HAVE FOR YOU?
Ah! Here’s the fun stuff! We have a veritable mountain of great rewards, ranging from wallpapers to DVD’s, storyboards and an Exclusive movie poster created by Mr. Dominguez himself and even receiving an IMDB credit as an Executive Producer!
OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP!
