Film Summary

Watching PEV riders blow by on their  electric skateboards, unicycles and scooters viewers often question what kind of person rides a one wheel vehicle at 40mph?  Is it safe riding those things in  the streets? Why do riders have on so much gear? What viewers  may not understand is that the ride is only one part of the experience. Moreover the reasons riders choose to face such risks are just as or even more important than the ride itself?  “Electric Pioneers,” introduces the personal stories behind the increasing PEV community and shares why these vehicles are growing in popularity. So hop on board and join the rideby supporting this film.

About Us

Director & Producer: Patrick Phillips

Patrick Phillips is a multi-disciplinary artist and owner of the Educational Empowerment Education Group, a company designed to empower youth and young adults through educational print and video materials. Mr. Phillips, an award winning speaker and author of 15+ publications, began his content creation career producing and editing The Change Factor, an educational short video series  (over 100 episodes), supporting his educational consultant business.

In 2020, he partnered with over 20 Personal Electric Vehicle(s) (PEV’s) brands expanding his endeavors by creating marketing content.  The catalyst led Patrick to delve into filmmaking telling more complex stories.  Patrick is currently writing two scripts and is incredibly excited to write, direct and produce the film, “Electric Pioneers”.

Production Manager: Deitrah J. Taylor

Deitrah J. Taylor, a native Georgian with maternal Gullah/Geechee roots, builds worlds so people can learn about and from one another. She received a Master of Arts in History in 2009 and has been teaching at Georgia Military College as an adjunct history professor since 2010. She has also created museum tours and cultural programs. Also a dramaturgist, Deitrah assists new playwrights -- ensuring their scripts are historically and culturally accurate -- allowing audiences to time travel and learn. Deitrah co-wrote a play for the Atlanta Black Theatre Festival, performed in 2019. During the pandemic, Taylor lectured virtually at California State San Bernardino and created her own company Joyeful Time Traveler LLC. Currently, Deitrah is enrolled in the film production certificate program at Clayton State University’s Continuing Education program and looks to embrace growth, change and healing.
