Summary
Time travel can be much more than a movie. It can be a personal journey into your childhood through the family dinner table.
My name is Jill Denyce (pen name) and I am the author of Every Dish has a Story. My passion is cooking and exploring the history of American dishes from the 1930s - 1980s. I do this on my YouTube channel, YesterKitchen. Since starting my channel, as I present a dish, my audience share their childhood memories with me. I have heard so many beautiful stories and was so inspired to write a book going back in time, to childhoods from all walks of life, telling people's stories about the one dish that brings them back to their childhood. I've interviewed twenty-one people, asking them to share their special childhood food memories. These stories and the recipes, are the heart and soul of this book.
The science of food memories is amazing. I’ve discovered how what we ate as a child truly affects what we like to eat as adults. Your brain is a miraculous thing and keeps track of everything. Whether you realize it or not, your brain and all it's amazing components, direct you through food from childhood to adulthood.
My hope is that, in reading the personal stories in this book, you will be inspired to look back on your own childhood through the lens of the foods you ate. Through your family dinner table, your grandparents house, holidays, your backyard BBQ’s, the snacks and meals you shared with your friends, you relive your own stories. Take comfort in knowing your brain has kept track of these memories your entire life, holding on to them even if you've forgotten. Come read, smile and remember. Travel back in time to your childhood through food.
You will love this book if you ever had a childhood and want to remember the foods from your past that are tucked away in your memory. This book is truly for everyone. The individual stories told will inspire you and maybe even make you hungry. But never fear, every story includes the recipe.
Every Dish has a Story speaks to young and old alike. We’ve all had childhoods, we’ve all enjoyed certain foods growing up. We all have memories tucked away that we haven’t thought about in a very long time.
Ultimately, I hope that Every Dish has a Story brings the reader joy as we cover some scientific components around food and the brain. You will get answers to how the food you ate as a child has an affect on what you eat as an adult, how we process food memories and a very small but important part of the brain that decides if you like or don’t like a food for you.
About the Author
Jill Denyce (pen name) has been cooking and studying food history for at least forty years. She became interested in reading cookbooks at the ripe old age of twelve and has never stopped. Profound interest in the recipes lead to the curiosity of where the dishes originated. After years of exploring and learning, she came to realize her favorite food decades. Dishes from the 1930s –1980s are her passion. In 2019, extremely nervous, she launched her YouTube channel, YesterKitchen as a way of celebrating the dishes of the past and their stories so they do not get lost in history. These dishes range from the well knowns such as Tuna Noodle Casserole to the more obscure such as Flaming Cabbage. She loved sharing her passion of food history and through this passion her audience started to grow.
As viewers began to recognize these dishes from their childhood and started sharing their childhood memories of these dishes with her through the comment section and personal emails, she knew her channel was something special. Her channel was bringing back loving memories for thousands through the food they enjoyed with their families decades ago. With these childhood memories came grateful viewers who started sharing their own treasured family recipes and requesting she make specific ones on her episodes.
YesterKitchen became a place of childhood food memories and as they say, the rest was history. As the reader, you can experience Jill’s detailed childhood story in part of the book.

Postage is only included for orders within the United States. If you are outside of the United States you can certainly order but postage is separate and it is a different ordering process. Please send a direct message to me at yesterkitchenbook@gmail.com before ordering with your name, address/country and email so I can calculate your shipping postage. Then I will reply and give you instructions on how to order and pay the postage.
Risks & Challenges
The biggest challenge with publishing a book is delivering the finished book to the backer, specifically my mailing of the book to you. I have eliminated this risk by building into the campaign the mailing and shipping costs of your signed copies to you within each pre-order tier.
The risk of delivering the pre-sale copies of my book is contingent on the publisher we use. I will be working closely with New Degree Press to make sure we get the earliest possible ship date of the signed book copy to you. We will keep all pre-sale backers up-to-date as my book hits each key milestone and publishes. You will know when the copies are expected to ship.
Other Ways You Can Help
Not everyone can support, but that doesn't mean you can't get something out of it!
I will reward the top 3 people who refer the most backers at the end of the campaign (30 days). Here's how:
At the top of the campaign page, you will see the "share" buttons. Click on the "chain" icon to get a custom link just for you. (Note: don't use the URL in the browser window as it won't work to track referrals and you won't get credit ?)
Copy that link and paste it on your social media, email it to a friend, or text a fellow book lover.
When someone clicks on that link and backs the book, you get 1 entry!
Please use #EVERYDISHHASASTORY and tag me as well as my publisher, New Degree Press, so we can help amplify your efforts!
