About San Diego State University’s Filipino Organization: Andres Bonifacio Samahan
We are the Filipino-American students of San Diego State University's ANDRES BONIFACIO SAMAHAN who dedicate several months of hard work for two of the most memorable nights of our college experience: FILIPINO CULTURE NIGHT on March 15 & 16, 2013!
The members of Andres Bonifacio Samahan not only write the play, choreograph our own cultural dances but even raise most of the funds on our own. Our goal is to educate others about the struggles and experiences of Filipino-Americans and to promote cultural awareness about our heritage. This completely student-ran production is our gift back to the community and for that very reason, the students voluntarily prepare for this whole theatrical show solely due to their vision in the progression of our culture.
Filipino Culture Night is one of the very few occasions in which we are able to express ourselves and hold onto our culture. It is our way of sending a message to the public and to allow others to gain insight of what current struggles we are facing in the lives of today's generation. “Samahan” is the action of coming together and uniting for one purpose. So, come with us on this never-ending, yet thrilling quest to re-discovering our roots!

Our Story
Our vision for this FCN theme is to be focused on the function of the Filipino Family Dynamic*
Each character in our play is based on people that we have known in our lifetime which is why this production is closer to our hearts than ever. Each expression and every single trait of our characters are real and we need all the help we can get to bring these characters to life on stage
In our Filipino Culture Night, we will address problems such as: the lack of conversation in a family household, family relationships, drug abuse, gambling and excessive alcoholic intake, early teenage pregnancy, questioning one’s sexual orientation, domestic violence, violence against women and those with severe disabilities.
On a more personal level, this may be one of the few if not one of our last chances in passing the message along to our own family. Our hope is that the actions which will be projected through the play will resonate in the minds of those present and hopefully have families begin some form of dialogue with one another. Please help us in having our voices heard.

What We Need
Every year, this production alone costs more than $15,000+.
The theater (San Diego Joan Kroc Theater) at which we are performing costs: ~ $8,000
This estimated total will allow Samahan to utilize the theater for 3 days of tech rehearsal and 2 nights of performing the live theater production.
Although we are all young college students who have had some experience in the performing arts, we still wish to at least have all the quirks that any other theatre production would have such as:
-
Costumes & Props: for all the actors/actresses and cultural dancers/performers =$700
-
Scenic Design: an actual set for actors/actresses to maneuver around and utilize = $1,000
-
Videographer: to film all that we have absorbed so that future generations will benefit = $400
For the past twenty-eight years that we put on this production, we have always wished for the general admission to be absolutely free of charge. However, the amount of money we raise is still not enough to cover the venue and other additional fees. It hurts us to ask for extra help to subsidize the cost, but we promise you, this is something that you won't regret investing yourself into. We are young students who wish to hold onto our roots. We want to understand ourselves. We need for others to understand us. Intindihin Mo Ako. "Understand Me."
Tickets
-
Pre-Sale Tickets $3
-
At the Door Tickets $5
If we are still unable to raise the $15,000+ then all the funds raised will go directly back into the organization and to next year’s production to give them a head start.
