AUGUST 24-28, SAN FRANCISCO, CA.
Designed for Photographers, this workshop will introduce you to the world of filmmaking.
Photography skills include composition and lighting, so for photographers some elements of filmmaking will come easily, but it's not as simple as switching your DSLR to Video Mode...
My own journey into filmmaking was from a world of corporate photography, and the learning curve was steep. Moments are no longer measured in fractions of a second, but rather in minutes, from multiple angles, with a demand for good sound and the threat of changing light.
Come spend a week in the beautiful Presidio in San Francisco, shooting, learning, trying gear and immersing yourself in a whole new world!
We'll cover how to shoot family moments, interviews, events and both scripted and unscripted videos. You'll try single- and multiple-camera set-ups, and learn about how gear can add to your storytelling - microphones, constant lights, jibs, dollies, cranes, quadcopters, monitors and more.
There'll also be an opportunity for you to experience what it's like to be on set working with a crew, cast and an exuberant and demanding Director...
And finally, you'll marvel at the wonderment of story boards, how easy they are to create, and how vital they are when filming!

Q&A
1, Who is Ollie Dale?
I am a Professional Photographer and Filmmaker from New Zealand.
I have won many awards at the annual NZIPP Professional Photography Awards, and won the filmmaking category (Fusion) 3 years in a row (2012, 13 and 14)
I have worked with big brands like Saatchi & Saatchi, and small brands like Microsoft, and many brands in between. I've learned that story-telling is the key to a great video, and a combination of photography, technical aptitude and rhythm is what adds to a story to make something worth watching.
I am also a Master in The Arcanum, Trey Ratcliff's online learning experience for photography (and soon, Filmmaking!)
2. What do I bring?
Bring your own cameras/computer gear - there will be opportunities to try other combinations, and to see the benefits of certain equipment, but ultimately this workshop is about you learning to achieve great things with the gear you already have.
3. Do I need any previous experience with video?
No! Anyone can attend - you will have chances to work in pairs or small groups of people of similar experience levels as yourself, as well as scheduled one-on-one time with me, so all skill levels are welcome!
4. Is this just for locals?
Anyone is welcome to come - if you're from outside San Francisco you'll need to arrange your own accommodation, but you're a grown-up now; you can do eeeet!
5. I'm a vegan, will that be catered for in your lunches?
Sigh...
