HUMU is a word meaning ”humming” or ”commotion” in Finnish, the native language of Finland. The name HUMU is also making reference to "human music".

Flexound HUMU is the natural progression of experiencing audiovisual content. Until now nearly all entertainment has been geared to our ears and eyes only. Radio broadcasting started in the 1890's, movies with synchronized sound came in the 1920's. Finally now, nearly a century later, Flexound adds the sense of touch to your favorite entertainment.

Instead of loudspeakers that vibrate sound into air, HUMU vibrates sound through an Elastic Vibrating Element, through foam, and into your body, providing a unique listening experience. 

Flexound HUMU is a near-field listening device. To enjoy the gentle vibration of the sound waves and the soundscape created by HUMU at its best, put HUMU behind you neck and shoulders, lean back on a comfortable couch, sofa or bed and relax. Let yourself be immersed into the wonderful world of sound and music.

HUMU is easy to connect to any playback device either via a Bluetooth connection or with a 3.5mm audio jack/cable, whether a smart phone, a tablet, a laptop, a computer or a TV.

HUMU enriches the experience of any audiovisual content from audio books to movies, from video games and VR to sports broadcasts or radio. HUMU does not require a separate control app, as you control both volume and content with your host device.

The feelsound technology used in HUMU, combines high-quality sound reproduction and physical distributed vibration, that allows users to hear and feel sound simultaneously. Unlike loudspeakers that vibrate sound into air, HUMU contains our proprietary Flexound Xperience module and a patented EVE (Elastic Vibrating Element)  to vibrate sound into an intelligent foam interior. This produces a soft, near-field listening experience which minimizes disturbance to others in vicinity of the device, even when listening to bass-heavy frequencies.

HUMU covers the whole frequency range from 20Hz to 20kHz with a single element, while the vibrating sensations are felt most at lower frequencies. Middle and high frequencies create a unique soundscape, that we call the HUMU sound island or sound bubble. 

HUMU is designed by Pasi Pennanen, an acclaimed industrial designer and the winner of the 2016 Ornamo Design award for his work on the Toroidion 1MW concept electric supercar. He has previously worked with brands such as Jaguar, Honda and Zagato Centrostile. Pasi describes HUMU as "form and functionality meeting ergonomics in a vibrant acoustic experience".

Flexound's story began as a request from the wife of Jukka Linjama, PhD in acoustics, a violinist and inventor to-be. Desiring to create a device to assist his wife, an occupational therapist working with disabled and autistic children, Jukka set forth to invent what would become the Taikofon FeelSound Player, Flexound's first product intended for therapeutic use.

The Flexound team soon realized the game-changing nature of this innovation for entertainment and relaxation, and so the development of the consumer device which would become HUMU started. Finally now the product is complete with necessary certificates and approvals and ready for immediate mass production.

For every thirty HUMUs sold through Indiegogo, we are donating one Taikofon FeelSound Player to a disabled or autistic child. Our story started from the needs of these wonderful children and we feel the need to give back to them. We have witnessed what a great help and joy this product can be to special children and adults alike, and want to continue doing good also in this way. How do I use HUMU?

1. Turn on HUMU

How long can HUMU play?

HUMU has battery up to 8 hours with one charging. HUMU can also be used while being charged and in this way HUMU can play without time constraint.

How to charge HUMU and how long does it need to charge?

To charge, connect the USB charging cable with a charger to the USB connector. An empty battery will take 4 hours to be fully charged.

How to clean HUMU? Can I take the cover off and wash it?

HUMU can be cleaned by wiping the cover with a dry or lightly moist cloth. The cover cannot  be removed; it must be installed by qualified service personnel.

Is HUMU waterproof?

No, HUMU is not waterproof.

Can I use HUMU with iOS, Android or Windows Phone?

HUMU works with all the operating systems and smart devices that have Bluetooth audio connection; or a normal 3,5 mm Aux-connector.

Can I watch Netflix with HUMU?

Yes. You can enjoy any kind of digital content that has audio content through HUMU: radio, streaming, sounds of nature, audiobook, games, films and videos - anything you enjoy to listen.

Can I connect HUMU with Aux cable?

Yes. You can use a normal 3,5 mm Aux cable to connect with HUMU.

Can I control the level of sound wave vibration?

The level of sound vibration can be controlled through the level of volume; or you can change music types to experience stronger or lighter vibrations.

If I use HUMU in a high volume, can it damage my hearing?

Yes. A low enough volume is recommended to avoid hearing damage when using HUMU for prolonged listening sessions. However, risk of hearing damage is considerably less than e.g. with earphones.

What safety certifications does HUMU have?

HUMU has already received the FCC, CE, CCC safety certifications. This means that e.g. Bluetooth radio is compliant, and battery is carefully tested to meet requirements of safe use.

Is sound wave vibration harmful?

Sound is perceived in everyday life by both ears and skin, even though most of us do not notice this. Many people like listening music with loud volume in clubs and movie theaters – you want to feel it deeply, also with your body. HUMU produces the same vibration feeling effect with much less sound volume. Of course, like with any device, common sense is needed: sensory overload and discomfort may happen if listening sessions are overly excessive.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping cost are different between different destinations. Once you fill the delivery address, the shipping cost will be calculated automatically.

What do I do if I want to refund, return or exchange?
Refunds can be made through Indiegogo while the campaign is still on. Once the campaign ends, the production will begin. Therefore, we cannot offer refunds once the campaign ends.
