Who
Are We?
Up close and personal, we are Patrick Jacquet and
Rob De Schutter,
both fathers and both bike-aficionados. We run a small design
& development firm called DeltaReference based in the city of
Ghent, Belgium.
The last 7 years we have been working and cooperating on several ideas
and products in the toy industry. We've also built prototypes for other
companies including medical appliances, automated payment kiosks
&
consumer electronics.
Venturing into the bike
industry with FlipCrown was a logical next step for the
bike-o-philiacs* we are. Besides FlipCrown we are working
on other exciting bike-related products. (* not to be taken all too literally)
Why
we came up with FlipCrown
One can call us naive, but
we believe bikes are
an important answer
to some of the world's most pressing problems. Bikes (including
E-bikes) provide sustainable transport for an increasingly urbanizing
world population, reduce traffic congestion, don't pollute our city's ,
they help fight the growing obesity pandemic, and are even effective in
combating depression!
With FlipCrown we
want to be a part of this movement, helping to make a bike just
that little extra touch more convenient in crowded cities,
small hallways and tight apartments.
Why
we need your help?
FlipCrown
is a product for bike-lovers and perfectionists, but also for people
who are radically practical and want their bikes when they need them
and out of the way when they don't. The major bicycle
manufacturers won't take on such a niche product, so with this campaign
we want to rally the people that do see the point of slimming down
their bike. By supporting our campaign we can cover the cost of a
minimum order to start manufacturing and get a FlipCrown into your
hands!
How
far along are we?
We've
gone through all stages of turning an idea into a reality. Sketching,
CAD modeling, prototyping, testing, the molds have been produced and the first samples have
been made...
we have selected final manufacturers to produce the FlipCrown. We have
a quality control manager available to check the quality of the
manufactured products. And last but not least we've looked into the
best options for delivering the FlipCrown to your doorstep and made
arrangements so everything runs smoothly.
So
in short all we have to do in terms of producing our item once the
campaign is successful is tell the factory to go and follow up!

How do I Use FlipCrown?

Will
it fit my bike?
FlipCrown
was designed for so called 'threaded headsets' which are easily
recognizable. Just take a look at how the quill (this is the part that holds the handlebars) attaches to the fork (this is the part that holds the front wheel).
If you are not sure, you can send us a picture and we will help you out. Send to info@deltareference.com
Note; sometimes the top bolt of a threaded headset is
hidden under a cap.
What size FlipCrown do I need?
We
offer two sizes, 1" and 1 1/8". You do not need to determine this
before ordering. Once you order we will contact you and give you
guidelines to determine which size FlipCrown is for you.
Is it hard to install?
Nope.
Follow along with the provided instructions and you should be ready
within 15 minutes. Once we have our production samples we will create
an online tutorial, and a manual will be provided with your FlipCrown.
Is it safe?
Yes, it is perfectly safe and will not influence your bike’s steering, handling nor driving.
What
tools do I need?
We
will supply you with 2 custom wrenches that can be used to install both
the FlipCrown and the Quick Release pedals. In most cases you can use
this wrench to unscrew the original headset crown nut, but in some
cases you might need some extra leverage or a different
tool. You
can either use a pipe to extend the provided wrenches grip or use your
own tools instead. The FlipCrown is fastened onto the quill stem and
steerer tube with 3 setscrews, an Allen key is provided for this
purpose.
Do
you have a girl's/women's model bike?
Slim
bike is fun for boys and girls, but we do encourage to wear pants, keep
a watch on us tough, we are looking at releasing a great-looking
women's model soon!

The
Risks & Challenges
Let
us be honest, we're not big risk takers over here, we like to take well
thought out and planned decisions. Before we even considered launching
a crowd funding campaign we looked into everything that went wrong in
other campaigns.
We
paid extra attention to the logistics side, which tends to falter in
some crowd-sourcing campaigns. We calculated the costs every step of
the way, right up to your doorstep. We've set up a realistic deadline,
based on our manufacturers estimates + we calculated in a reasonable
margin of error on their side.
This is indeed our
first crowd-sourcing campaign, but we hope to reach out with more
complex projects in the future. We
chose to start with FlipCrown precisely because it is a relatively
modest project. We
are absolutely confident that with your help we can make the FlipCrown
a reality!
