About Us

Fluent Forever, Inc. came into being as a result of a 2013 Kickstarter campaign to create pronunciation training tools that worked in concert with Gabriel Wyner’s book, Fluent Forever. That Kickstarter campaign was initially designed to be a short, $10,000 fundraising effort to design some simple pronunciation resources, but ended up raising $96,000 and expanding to 65 different products over the following 3.5 years. Demand for those products never stopped after the 2013 Kickstarter, and so The Fluent Forever company grew up in order to meet its customer's needs. In September of 2017, it launched a second Kickstarter to create a single app that automates the entire Fluent Forever method. Within its first 6 days, that Kickstarter became the most funded app Kickstarter of all time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many months do I need to learn a language?

That'll depend on two things: how much time you're studying every day, and how challenging your language is. 

Based on my own experiences, if you're studying for ~45 min/day and you're an English native speaker, you should be able to reach a fairly solid level of fluency (CEFR levels B2/C1) in the following amounts of time:

• 6 months: Level 1 languages (Closely related to English): Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch. German is a level 1.5 language, so ~9 months.
• 12 months: Level 2 languages (Significantly different from English): Russian, Hebrew (If we get support for all languages, this category would also include things like Hindi, Icelandic, Greek, Hungarian, Turkish, Urdu)
• 24 months: Level 3 languages (Very different from English): Korean, Japanese, Mandarin, Arabic

What is the uniqueness of the technology?
This is the first app designed to teach you how to *think* in your target language instead of translating.

How does it work?
It uses Minimal Pair Testing to train your ears and teach pronunciation, followed by a flashcard customization process that allows you to learn a language while staying in control of your own learning process. The flashcards you create are put into a Spaced Repetition System to rapidly push words and grammar into your long term memory.

Will there be updates to it in the future?
Yes, we'll keep it current with the latest updates to iOS and Android, and continually add language support and grow our databases of proofread sentences.

How does it integrate with other connected devices?
It will sync with your iOS and Android devices. We will be looking into additional platforms as we move forward.

Safety And Regulation 

What are the recommended ages?
The app should be relatively easy to learn. We’re working with our lawyers to figure out recommended ages (we’ll probably land on ages 13+, in part due to legal concerns about keeping flashcard data from minors under 13).

Will this benefit my kids?
Learning a language is one of the greatest gifts you can give a kid. Aside from giving them a new ability to communicate with more people, it has a ton of documented side benefits, ranging from better test scores in all core subjects, better problem solving abilities, higher salaries once they reach the job market, etc. 

Where can I use it?
You can use it anywhere. You'll need an internet connection to actively create new flashcards, but you can review your old flashcards offline.

How is my privacy protected?
We'll be keeping user data secure, both on their phones and in connections with our servers. We're early in design, so the specific technologies we'll be using to keep data secure are still getting decided.
