The Work

Our financing goes towards the resources and the process of filming the music video. It will be Jaron's first time leaving the United States, thus, images reflecting his time and experiences among the African descendants in Cartagena, Colombia will be the focus of the video. It will be a platform for him as an artist to feed off a new city, new surroundings, and a different, yet, similar cultural energy.

The Core

In order to give Jaron's audience a different frame of reference, we will be shooting the video in the El Laguito neighborhood of Cartagena, a city on the Northeast coast of Colombia facing the Caribbean Sea.

The Method

We will be shooting on film as part of maintaining a high visual standard, offering fuller colors and deep visual texture. This will also allow us the ability to safely store and archive the original footage. This is not yet possible with digital recordings.

The Team

Jaron Lewis (Songwriter/Vocals/Executive Producer)
Jaron is a songwriter hailing from Atlanta, Georgia. Jaron based himself in Washington DC for inspiration in finalizing his upcoming debut LP, He Who Has Ears. The album is two years in the works and set for release in early 2016. Forever is the first of the artworks slated to promote the new record during the summer.

Dami Onifade (Director)

Dami began making music videos while studying Biochemistry and Psychology in Washington, DC. He eventually went on to write and direct his own stories and has spent the last 4 years working primarily with photography, film and oil paint. This will be his first music video in 5 years.

His films and photographs has been exhibited and accepted to permanent collections in galleries and universities across the North America and Europe.

His most recent movie Least Among Brethren  won the 2016 Award of Merit at the Canada International Short Film Festival, Vancouver, Canada. It can be viewed at this link. https://vimeo.com/123236945

Gabriella Mukakabano (Producer)
Gabriella is a craftswoman, curator and writer. Her passion for strong voices in music and cinema has brought her across the Americas since her studies at Howard University. She was a key research scout and script advisor on the 2015 film Least Among Brethren. Gabriella is currently curating a photographic series taken in the Central Brazilian town of Belo Horizonte during their new year's concert, attended by 60,000 visitors. This year, she opens her boutique of clothing made from hand-sewn fabrics.

Diego Reyes (Film Editor)
Diego first earned an editing credit on Dami's 2011 film Broke On Ice, based on the Tony Medina book of the same name. He is always keenly aware of how movement and timing can enhance the cinematic experience. He recently finished editing duties on Dami's upcoming film, Robo, to be on display in 2016 at the Mint Gallery in Atlanta.

The Production

Pera'a Productions has already arranged
  • Crew's Airfare & Lodging
  • Canon 310 XL Camera package
  • Editing hardware & facilities
We are seeking additional funding to go toward the following
  • Purchase of Super 8mm Film from Eastman Kodak.
  • Lunch for the crew for 3 shooting days
  • Post production fees, mainly film processing, editing and sound mixing.                 By the end of the production, Jaron's album will be ready for Spring and have a brand new music video to go along with it.

The Impact

Jaron's album has been in the finishing stages this winter and it will make a statement on how thorough of a musician and songwriter he is. His fans have been waiting for the independent release of the album, but he wants to offer them fine visual art as part of the package.

Pitfalls & Challenges

  • January in Colombia is SUMMERTIME. The extra funds will go toward ensuring the crew has adequate water, shelter and protection against sickness.
  • Our production schedule only allows for 3 shooting days. Therefore, the crew will need transportation to get to all the production locations as efficiently as possible.
