Forgive Me, Brother written by Ethan Van Der Korput is a short film in the genres of drama, psychological thriller, and crime. The story takes place in modern-day Australia, set within the city streets of Melbourne. Although it is mostly grounded in realism, there are some supernatural elements that occur throughout the story. The film’s protagonist is a mentally ill young man named Clay who was once a caring older brother before experiencing a tragedy that led to an overwhelming amount of regret. The amount of guilt that has broken his mind led to the creation of a visual manifestation of his brother Adrian who embodies the guilt, taunting him and pressuring him into acting out tasks that he believes will earn him forgiveness. The film’s story is simply about the desire to make up for a mistake that cannot be undone and the lengths that one will go through to be forgiven for it. Clay is intended to be a victim of self-abuse caused by the weight of responsibility he was not able to live up to, now unwillingly punishing himself mentally until he can find peace in his mistake. However, the path that he is pushed on only leads to his downfall, even if he does find peace in the end.

Ethan Van Der Korput - Writer/Director
My name is Ethan and for over a year now I have been working towards achieving my bachelor of film and tv production degree at JMC Academy. Before this, I successfully completed a cert. III in Screen and Media at NCAT. On top of this, I have been creating short films among many other types of media for the past six years of my life. With all this experience I am now ready to take on my biggest project yet, writing and directing a story I’ve been wanting to tell for a long time.
Chloe Thom - Producer/ 1st AD
My name is Chloe, I've been studying for a bachelor's degree in film and television for two years now. It’s something I find myself able to show creativity and have my imagination come to life. As a dancer, I use my imagination to think of different ways to make things interesting and appealing to audiences. As a Producer and 1st AD on Ethan’s Film, I will have the opportunity to assist in making the film more enjoyable, clever, and fascinating; and that’s something I’ll achieve with my imaginative ideas.
Maddison Adams - Director of Photography
My name is Maddison, I have been studying film and television at JMC and I will be working on Ethan's project as his DOP. I have worked on a few projects as DOP for JMC, including my group's short film project as well as my documentary created last year. I am excited to be working on this new project with Ethan because I feel it’s a new take on the vengeful stories that we have all seen as well as I feel it will give me a great opportunity to build on what I have learned at JMC and further my abilities as a DOP.
Tyler Lewallen - Editor
My name is Tyler, I’ve been studying at JMC for a year now and hope to obtain my bachelor's degree in film and television. I’ve always enjoyed the editing process as I find that’s where content truly develops its identity. I cannot wait to edit Ethan’s film as his vision is so distinct and I feel the post-production side will be what helps define it.
Victor Canil - Production Designer
My name is Victor the production designer on Ethan’s short film and I’m a student studying a bachelor of film and television production at JMC. I have production designed for a short film previously. I’m very passionate about filmmaking and I felt like I could do the script Justice when I read it, especially as I love films within that genre. I believe as a production designer I will be able to help Ethan visually present his vision and I'm excited to see it come to life.
Efe Vardarli - Sound Designer/Recorder
My name is Efe and I've been doing sound design since 2019, having worked on a wide range of projects. I’m excited to do post sound work on Forgive Me, Brother, as I’ve never worked on an action project before. I’m particularly looking forward to recording all sorts of gnarly sounds like hitting raw meat as a way of creating punch sound effects.
