Freebird tells the story of Mickey, a 19 year old boy wanting to start his adult life. He is fed up with the small town where he lives with his mother. Mickey desires to spread his wings so that he can discover the world outside of his narrow minded, boring town.

Mickey's mother, who has been locking herself up in her own house for years because of anxiety and depression, is holding him back. When she feels a growing distance between them she faces her biggest fear: being left alone.

Mickey is a bird in an invisible cage. He's a young adult stuck in a dilemma... until the highlight of the year arrives in town: the annual carnival, nothing will be the same again.

Freebird is a story about growing up, making life choices, being ambitious and chasing dreams. It's about a boy who wants to ecape the life that seems destined for him and be free to live his own. Someone who wants to find the meaning of real love and happiness.

Writer and Director

When I graduated from high school I wanted to do the one thing I always dreamed of doing: making films. While other classmates chose for steady careers my ambition drove me into the unknown. I started studying at RITS School of Arts in Brussels and I've been chasing my childhood dream ever since. It are those experiences that formed the main theme of this short film.

For over two years I've worked on this coming of age drama that follows Mickey in his search for himself and his destiny. This fictional story centers on dreams, ambition, love and destiny and mixes drama with humour.

After a tough but interesting writing period, I'm super excited to go into production . All we need now is your contribution to give my childhood dream that final push in the back.

Simon Van Buyten started acting at a young age. As part of theather company Bühnehasen he earned his stripes on stage. After being admitted to Studio Herman Teirlinck he got his first main role in the feature film Mixed Kebab.

  Line Pillet

Line Pillet graduated in 2013 with a master's degree in dramatic arts at the Lemmens Institute. While studying she played in numerous theater productions. She first appeared on the big screen in Little Black Spiders, a feature film by Patrice Toye.

  Marijke Pinoy

Besides her own theater company Compagnie Cecilia, Marijke Pinoy is famous for numerous films and TV shows, including BenX and Vidange Perdue

Bworg is an independent nonprofit organization, founded to help young filmmakers bring their ideas to reality. Our experience and professionalism have already been proven to be the ideal recipe in supporting and producing ambitious and promising film projects.
