About VERTIGO
Vertigo gives undergraduate playwrights the opportunity to have their original scripts realized into full-fledged productions. By producing student-written theatre, Vertigo hopes to be a creative and dynamic presence on campus, encouraging students to take artistic risk. Vertigo is the only student theatre organization on campus that produces entirely student-written work.
We strive for our shows to live beyond Northwestern. Our One Man Lord of the Rings production recently became a YouTube sensation and received press inThe Onion. Our 2009 production of Cephalopod received its New York City premiere at the New York International Fringe Festival and our 2008 production of Mild, Non-Injurious Physical Contact debuted at the Manhattan Repertory Theatre in Fall 2009. Clay has been produced by the Lincoln Center Theatre, About Face Theatre, and the Lookingglass Theatre Company. Our alums work at the nation's top television, film and theatrical production companies. Many of our playwrights enter their work in professional festivals and workshops around the country. Vertigo was founded in 1994. That makes us 19 years old!
The Show
Gallows’ Humor
tells the powerful story of two brave young people tackling their own physical
and mental demons. A story of wit,
comedy and inspiration, we follow their lives, and witness a relationship of
mutual need and hesitation develop between them. Intertwined within the story of Gallows’ Humor, comic strip characters
come to life, magnifying both the comedy and tragedy that exists within the
story of the two young characters. Gallows’
Humor is an epic, and yet timeless story brilliantly written by our own Will Sonheim,
and the cast and production team is working tirelessly to ensure that Gallows’ Humor develops into the
greatest show ever seen at Northwestern!

The Help We Need!
In order to make such an amazing show possible, we
need your help! Vertigo Productions is a non profit organization that relies
heavily on donations to provide the necessary finances needed to for putting up
a professional level production.
Vertigo is the only student theater board at Northwestern dedicated to
producing student-written work, and provides students with an opportunity to
see their artistic visions come to life onstage. Your generous donation will help contribute to multiple areas of production for Gallows' Humor, including:
- Purchasing lumber, paint, and scenery to construct our set.
- Renting sound and lighting equipment for the productions.
- Obtaining fabric and accessories to be used as costumes.
- Collecting props from thrift shops and rental stores.
- Assisting our publicity campaigns as well as marketing in and around the Northwestern and Chicago area.
- The possibilities are endless!
Why Donate?Because every Vertigo show is a world-premier,
the production process also is an incredible chance for students to express
their creative ideas and shape an original script into a fully developed
play. Vertigo’s winter production is
also a great chance for new students at Northwestern to get a taste of what
Vertigo’s mission is all about, and to get them excited about theater. All donations, no matter how small, are
greatly appreciated and are tax deductible!
