East New York Memorial Classic is 501(c)(3) not
for profit organization. Six guys from Brooklyn, NY decided to start a
basketball tournament to give the youth in the community the opportunity to
showcase their talent. There were tournaments all around city and uptown but
nothing this huge in Brooklyn. So we established the East New York Memorial
Classic and are currently approaching our 10th year. The starting point was
rough but we remained focused. We've grown over the years from t-shirts to
jerseys. Then we expanded from 8 teams to 16 teams. Lastly, from a couple of
hundred fans to a few thousand on a nightly basis. Through our dedication,
focus and hard work we have become one of the best tournaments in the tri-state
area.
As we want to expand, broaden our horizons and share our visions we're looking
to incorporate a junior league for our youth. The talk around the city is that
kids playing street ball on the playgrounds are non-existent. We beg to differ,
if you are a fan of basketball, you know that playground basketball is alive
and well. With that being said, we want to give them somewhere they can come
and gain the necessary structure and foundation needed to succeed in a
competitive environment. With the help of anyone that donates, we can help the youth
live up to their full potential.
With our tournament we
look to teach kids some important aspects of life. One way of doing that is
through sports. This can be very important because it teaches them teamwork and
how to do it in an organized way. This will be an outlet for our youth to use
their energy in a positive way. This also will be another way for those who are
socially challenged to collaborate with someone with a common interest. Our
goal is to build the confidence needed to make them want to reach for success.
We're looking forward to being a positive influence on our youth as they
progress through life.
Also, by supporting our campaign, you will help us with our back to school give back. There are so many children who lack the support from family members. With this funding we would be able to help children get the school year started off correctly by providing them with school supplies. Just a little assistance like this goes a long way in a child's mind.
