The Story:
Girl Tuesday is the story of Severin, a very special lady who meets someone fleetingly in a cafe. Severin doesn't have the courage to act on her feelings and the moment passes, seemingly forever.
Night after night, Severin returns to the cafe at the exact same time, in the exact same place . Determined to recapture the moment, and hoping this mysterious person, who made her heart beat so hard, will return so she can tell her how she feels...
Inspiration:
Ever had that feeling of "I just wish I had said something"?
This film is all about that feeling.
I wanted to tell a story that places us in an environment without phones or laptops or internet or technological distraction.
A special time where you have to work really hard to find someone, and where the rewards are so much greater as a result.
It's a world where a hand-written note carries such meaning. The thrill of receiving the note. The handwriting. The smell of the paper.
That's romance to me.
In the film, Severin and Gracie meet quite by chance, but the reaction is palpable.
Hearts beat hard. Hands shake. Pupils dilate...
It's about the little details. How someone puts sugar in their coffee. How their nose wrinkles when they smile. How their sneeze is quite possibly the cutest thing you've ever heard.
So much of that is lost in modern times. The magic of what is often right in front of us. The beauty of life in fine detail.
In the Edward Hopper painting "Automat" I was struck by the romance of it. The sense of quiet solitude. Of being in a special moment. I wanted to set a film in this place, to make the audience feel like they had entered a very special world, where the magic of romance could truly unfold.
This is not a quick throwaway short film. But a labour of love. Gorgeously shot and acted. Dripping with attention to detail and capturing every romantic moment. Every fleeting look. Every flush of the cheeks.
It's light and delicate, full of humour and warmth.
I am very excited to share this story with you, and I hope you will be able to help us make Girl Tuesday possible.
About Dan.
Dan Turner - ( IMDB PAGE)
I've made 4 feature films as an independent writer/director since 2005.
Here's a taste of my previous work...
As a filmmaker, two things remain true to me.
To make films that truly mean something. That resonate and make you think.
I also passionately believe in creating and promoting opportunities and a sense of fairness in an industry that can be very difficult to enter, prejudicial, and often exploitative.
This is why I have turned to crowdfunding. Something I've never considered before, but because a short film is a non-commercial venture, it is not possible to raise finance in the way that you can for a feature film, and I want to ensure that whoever works on the film is paid.
There will, of course, be overheads like location, equipment and catering etc. But after these overheads are paid I will set up a transparent co-operative fund where everyone who works on the film will receive an equal payment. Its a finance model similar to a lot of fringe theatre, and I feel, a fair one.
Its too easy, and for me, unethical, to expect people to work on an independent project for nothing, particularly when it is to help a writer/director fulfil their project.
There must be some recognition of all that hard work that goes on at every level, both in terms of career opportunities and financial compensation.
So every donor who makes a contribution to this crowdfunding campaign can be assured that the money will feature onscreen and to reward those talented people who made it possible.
When I talk about diversity in cast and crew, I am committing to addressing the shortfall in gender and race representation in key areas, in particular the areas of camera, design, music composition, production and editing. It's something I've spoken about passionately about in my time in education and something I can now put into action, now I'm back in production.
In addition, I want to provide a creative training ground for film students and new filmmakers who can work with existing professionals, shadowing them on the film and gaining valuable experience.
Choosing Indiegogo means there is no lower or upper limit on what we can raise, and that means the more we raise the more we can pay everyone who works on the film.
I would like to to make sure we at least meet industry minimums where possible, but it would be even better if we can beat that. Working on a film can be gruelling and I want to ensure people feel correctly compensated for all their endeavours.
Funding the film:
Having looked at other crowdfunding campaigns I wanted to make sure the incentives are fun and allow those who are kind enough to invest in the film to be a part of the experience.
Theres hopefully something of interest for everyone, and options to donate if they're not your thing too!
(Click on each perk to find out more)
Contributing towards the film would be greatly appreciated, but there are other ways that you can help too.
Spreading the word about the film and the campaign would really help raise awareness and potentially bring about more donations. Every share on social media, widens the films potential for contributions.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about the film, my promise to anyone who makes a donation is to produce a film you can feel proud to have invested in, and to help towards creating opportunities for those who may find it difficult to break into the film and television industries.
