My name is Bret Dodd, owner of Petrolhead Productions in Olympia, WA. I've spent the better part of 20+ years in video production. My passion is motorsports history. This is a part of history that has to be captured for future generations. You can help this happen!
In 1986, the World Rally Championship had it's final rally of the year in the United States, specifically my hometown of Olympia, Washington. I was a 22 year old with a stills photography background, and the ability to go shoot a world championship event. The Olympus Rally became a pivotal event in 1986, as it was the last year of the notoriously fast Group B cars, and because of a questionable "rules violation" at Sanremo, Italy, which wiped out a 22 point advantage by Juha Kankkunen, the Olympus became a "Winner Take All" event for the World Drivers Championship, with just one point separating the top two drivers.
Your contribution to this documentary will finally help tell the story of the last three races of an unforgettable era of motorsports. We will be conducting extensive interviews with Juha Kankkunen and Markku Alen, and for perhaps the first time, both co-drivers will discuss the complexities of getting these 600+ horsepower fire-breathing monsters through the forest tracks while driving on the razors edge of control. Historic footage, current reunion footage, and never before seen photographs will capture the history that wrapped up 1986, and the end of Group B.
Once respected adversaries, Juha Kankkunen and Markku Alen are great friends. The documentary will focus on that tenuous relationship in 1986, and how each side, however convinced they would win, still showed great respect for the other. It will focus on the team managers of both Peugeot and Lancia, and what cards they played to make sure their driver won the championship.
What makes this project important, is that all of the people involved are still available to interview. We're sadly reaching a point where these drivers won't be available to interview some day. We need to capture these moments and document them for future generations. It's paramount to the history of rallying, that we put an exclamation point on the end of the greatest era in motorsport.
In the "Perks" section, we will be offering a signed/numbered print, featuring autographs from all involved. Your contribution to this project will not only get you a piece of motorsport artwork and history, but will also help to get this project funded to provide this insight for future generations of motorsport enthuisiasts. Posters are museum grade heavy bond.

We will be doing a livestream that will be available to all who contribute. I'll likely do this several times during the event, where I can discuss what we have, and what's coming up. I will try to answer any questions presented!
We will be creating a "behind the scenes" video with footage not included in the feature documentary. This will be available as a digital download.
We will be creating a digital photo album of the shoot, that will be available to all who contribute.
