Howdy Horror Fans!
Welcome to the indiegogo page for Infect Scranton's newest attraction "Gore Camp" -- the East Coast's Premiere overnight immersive HORROR camping experience.
Forget watching horror films ... Gore Camp places you right inside your worst nightmares!
Some Background
Three years ago, Infect Scranton began in Northeast PA and created a new type of fan-focused zombie themed weekend filled events (pub crawl, charity obstacle 5k, food drive, zombie brunch and convention). People thought we were NUTS. They said it would never work. (WE LOVE PROVING THEM WRONG) We've grown so much that we're adding a new expereince that will enable us to expand our brand and officially showcase our new homebase on more than 60 acres this fall at Reaper's Revenge in Montdale, Pa.
In 2012, Shannon C. Keith, an avid fan of zombies with a passion for her local community, recognized a need for a niche event that was about connecting fans with zombie celebrities from television, film, artists, authors and survival experts at an event that would also benefit her local community in northeastern Pennsylvania. And so, the Infect Scranton event was born. The first weekend, a pub crawl was held in downtown Scranton, Pa (also the fictional home of NBC's Office), a zombie obstacle race called the Zombie Survival Challenge was held on former mining property in Taylor, Pa (a small community just outside Scranton), a convention was held four blocks from the race site at the Riverside High School (set up as a survivor camp), and a zombie brunch with the attending authors --like Matt Mogk-- concluded the weekend on Sunday in Moosic (another community just outside Scranton).
The critics and skeptics (those "seasoned" folks in the typical convention business) didn't get it. What were we? In a nutshell ... We were a success.
That first year, more than $7,000 was donated to several groups as a result of the weekend's history making fan-focused event.
In 2013, we were approached with the chance to host the convention and race at Montage Moutain in Scranton! The move enabled us to expand the convention to 2-days and created a race that was on an actual ski resort's mountainside (perfect for a survival situation). We also made history again, being the first race in the world to add the experience to a zombie obstacle race of paintball! We teamed up with the National Guard and Army Reserves and transformed the ski resort into the perfect zombie apocolypse setting! Even boasting more than 30 guests like Lew Temple and Vincent Ward from the Walking Dead (the one race where stars present medals at the finish line).
We added a new event, the UnDead Fed, partnering with the Mall at Steamtown, and generating more than 300 lbs of food for the Scranton Resuce Mission, a local food bank. People also got their zombie on at the pub crawl, as that tradition continued.
In short, we grew again, and what started out as a fleeting concept during a commercial break while watching the Walking Dead in 2012, has raised nearly $10,000 for local groups and charities in two short years, while creating a really unique event that is fan focused and goes against everything the skeptics have to say...
Now we're at it again ... With our newest adventure and expansion of the Infect Scranton brand.
What is Gore Camp and What do "Campers" expereince?
Gore Camp is the East Coast's Premiere overnight immersive HORROR camping experience. Forget watching horror films ... Gore Camp places you right inside your worst nightmares!
Lasting 12 hours, campers arrive at the campsite (hosted in conjunction with NEPA's Leading Haunted Authority Reaper's Revenge and Infect Scranton) and are checked in, shown to their tent, given some survival gear and get "settled in" before all HELL breaks loose!!
Throughout the night, campers will have the opportunity to chill in the "safety zone" (BEWARE, as you aren't that safe as some familiar and not so familiar horror favorites and ghouls break into the protected space (led by the mysterious and psychotic "butcher") and will be startled, harassed as you pee in the porta-lavs, scared, and even pulled from your tents as you try to sleep) and enjoy the live entertainment, vendors, bonfire, marshmallow roast celebrity guests, films and other surprises.
Those who venture out of the "safety zone" are considered fair game and will find themselves facing unknown evils and nightmares beyond their worst imaginations. Additionally, campers will be sent off into the darkness will little guidance to partake in various horrorific challenges, during which, those who dare may be forced to participate in rituals, bathe in blood, avoid kidnappings, experience public humiliation, work together to overcome physical and mental obstacles and more.
Due to the intense nature of the overnight event, no one under the age of 18 will be admitted!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
WHAT'S INCLUDED: Here's the skinny on the ticket to Gore Camp.
For that price you get all this: Sleeping Accommodations for 1 (4 person tent), MRE Meal and Beverage, LightSticks, Live Entertainment, Horror Movies, bonfire, Marshmallow Roast, Scares in the Safety Zone, "Terror Treks" outside of the Safety Zone (Extreme gore and terror), T-Shirt, continental breakfast, 1 one-time admission ticket to all attractions at Reaper's Revenge Haunted Attraction 2014, celebrities, and other goodies. PLUS-- Complete all of "Terror Treks" and you'll get comeback and participate in the Infect Scranton Race FOR FREE as part of our newtwist to your favorite race this September.
NOTE: Our event isn't some OVERSOLD parkinglot flimflam scam. It's in the woods of Pennsylvania. We only want 400 people for a reason. Friday, July 11 is about you... terrifying the crap out of you.
Our Terror Trek isn't some mass exodus turned mad grab for junk. In fact, we're designing a mini-obstacle course as part of one of the things you'll need to face IN THE DARK. (no, it's not a frigging race, but if the freaks pull you out into the darkness, you bet your ass you'll run --or at least try to)
We're also bringing in some special surprise celebrity guests ... ANYONE ELSE DOING THAT? Didn't think so.
WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED: Diapers (we predict campers some may need these), flashlights (unlike other "campouts" Gore Camp is located in a remote area of Pennsylvania and in the woods, drinks (no alcohol will be permitted on the property), sleeping bag (not that you'll get much sleep), pillow, snacks (there will be some super cool vendors onsite to supply the hungry foodies).
Limited to only 400 tickets each night, in order to ensure that campers have a truly horror-filled and immersive experience , Gore Camp will debut on the East Coast on Friday, July 11. These limited tickets are anticipated to sellout.
You can get on a waiting list here: http://www.gorecamp.com/ticket-waiting-list.html
Sounds Great, But So What ...
Look, to be honest, we're here because we understand the power of this medium and see the value in using it as a way to PRESELL about 10 of the 400 tickets we will officially put on sale this March (and expect to sellout), raise some money for promotional swag when we hit the road and head to Monster Mania. We plan to use these funds to help us promote ourselves in the coming weeks and months. We know what we can do and really want to expand our reach up and down the east coast because our concept takes overnight immersive horror camping to the next level. This is your chance to be a part of horror history!
More importantly we want to catch a buzz, a social buzz ... so share this, pimp this, spread this. Giddy Up and remember: "There is no method to our madness".
We understand you might have questions and we welcome them so ask away! We're waiting to get our scare on ... are you?
