The Gaiety School of Acting class of 2014 need your help, we are fundraising for our final graduation play running June 23rd - 28th in Smock Alley Theatre, written and directed by Chris Edmund.

Chris commenced his career in London where he directed for the Gate Theatre Notting Hill, the Riverside Studios, the Kings Head and New End Theatres. He also directed for regional companies including the Crucible, Sheffield. He has also worked in the United States as Director and Teacher. In his Directing career he has directed over 150 productions from new writing to the classical repertoire.

In 1985 he moved to Australia to join the
Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), which has produced many of the dynamic Australian actors who have established high profile careers, here and overseas. Actors trained with Chris include Hugh Jackman, Jai Courtney and Frances O’Connor.  He has been both Dramaturg and Director for the Australian National Playwrights Conference

Previous reviews for his work "Stalin's Orchard" include -

"Yet again, Chris Edmund has demonstrated impressively and unambiguously that, in theatrical terms, he is a master when it comes to the evocation of political terror. The prime focus here is two men with almost limitless political power and who, in different ways, have callously misruled over a great people. "

"Stalin’s Orchard deserves an international audience."

"...Taut, witty, intelligent, and emotionally compelling with complex and fascinating characters."
--Hugh Jackman.

Chris has been workshopping and devising with class of 2014 on an new exciting production, however, in order to fund the following requirements expected when producing a play,

we need your help

Production team: we need a lighting designer, sound designer, director, writer, stage manager and various other important people to get our production looking and sounding the best it can, we also need set, costume, venue hire, PR and more - this all doesn't come cheap, and as we are relying on ourselves to fundraise it means we have no government help, no grants, just us and our determination to deliver a professional production of the highest standard.

Over the past year and a half we have had pub quizzes, sponsored cycle, fun days with kids, cinema nights for adults, baking, selling various prizes we had donated, improv comedy night, live shows of poetry and singing, halloween events, christmas events now we need a final push with your help

WHY?

With funding at an all time low for the arts, its imperative that we actors, writers, producers and anyone with a passion for the arts are able and willing to give time and dedication not just to finding work, but creating their own work when there's nothing else. We need your support, by sticking together and supporting each other we can make amazing new work. This is our push out to the real world. We want to show what we've been doing for two years and we want you to be proud to have donated to us.

Other Ways You Can Help

If you haven't got the funds to help but still want to donate, we are always welcoming spot prizes we can raffle off, and we are looking for advertising in our programme.
