Short Summary

  • Introduce yourself and your background.
    • Director: Kabir Khattar
    • Nationality: Indian/American
  • Why I wrote this story
    • Growing up, I witnessed the quiet struggles many families endure behind closed doors. In a culture that values tradition and family honor, I saw how easily silence could become a shield—one that hides pain instead of addressing it. I’ve always been drawn to stories that challenge that silence, that peel back the layers of what’s unspoken, and confront the truths we’re too afraid to face.
    • When I began writing Dhairya, I wasn’t just crafting a narrative—I was answering a call. Saahir and Neha’s journey may not mirror my own, but their courage resonates deeply with me. They embody the strength and resilience I’ve seen in people who refuse to let their circumstances define them. Their story reflects a reality far too common yet rarely acknowledged: the silent battles fought within homes that seem whole from the outside.
This is an important story to tell because it shines a light on what so often remains hidden. It’s about breaking free—not just from abuse, but from fear, guilt, and the weight of expectation. It’s about the power of sibling love, the courage to stand up, and the resilience to find hope even in the darkest moments.
    • I feel a deep responsibility to tell this story with authenticity and care, to give a voice to those who feel silenced and unseen. Dhairya is not just a film; it’s a reminder of the strength within us to fight for the people we love and to seek a better future. Through this story, I hope to spark conversations, inspire empathy, and create space for healing.
This is why I’m telling Dhairya. Not just because it’s a story worth telling, but because it’s a truth that needs to be heard.

Risks & Challenges

  • In Dhairya, one major obstacle in crowdfunding is effectively communicating the film's deeply emotional and culturally nuanced story to potential backers. Since the film explores sensitive themes like familial abuse and sibling resilience, it's crucial to convey its purpose and impact without overwhelming or alienating the audience. Striking the right balance between showcasing the film's emotional depth and its universal message of hope is vital to engaging supporters. Additionally, building trust in my ability to execute such a personal and intense story is essential, requiring a strong pitch, compelling visuals, and a clear plan for how contributions will bring this vision to life.
