About this project

My name is Lucy, I am an emerging visual artist working in Vancouver and I work under the name L.J. Throstle. www.ljthrostle.ca

I have been painting for over a decade and selling my work since 2011. I’d love for more people to see it, so I decided to create a pack of greeting cards from a selection of my 2011-12 work. I have been very fortunate to receive a great deal of support and encouragement from friends and family, and recently people I don’t know have started buying my work; it’s a wonderful feeling, and I am very thankful. That is what my campaign is about, saying thanks and getting more people to see my work.

Christmas is on the way and there is always a rush to get cards and presents to people in time. But what about afterwards? Social media is great for the instant message to let someone know we are thinking of them, but there is nothing like receiving a thank you card in the mail in January, when you have the blues, the weather is terrible and you’re back at work: the festivities are over....or are they!?? Not with an arty thank you card in the post!

I’d like to think that some of my cards might be used to thank people for their generosity at Christmas, or even be given as Christmas gifts. The inside of the cards will be left blank, so you can use them for anything.

Assuming I am able to meet my target and get my cards out to people, I am then going to produce a “thank you” celebratory painting, which will include the names of all my funders. The making of this painting will be captured on film and a link sent to all supporters of this project and the names of the funders will be featured in the credits.

What I Need & What You Get

I have kept my costs as low as possible. The target set is enough for me to print the cards and mail them. If I beat my target and there are more orders, I will have more cards printed to send out. Simple as that.

It costs approximately $10 to produce the pack of 8 cards, the additional cost on the funding options, is to cover the packaging and postal costs and the 4% fee to indiegogo for using their service. It’s not a money making exercise, my aim is to put my art in front of more people in a thoughtful way.

  • I will be producing 800 cards, the potential is for that many people to se my work and smile at receiving a greeting from a friend!
  • If you don’t want to buy a pack of cards, you can pledge just $5 and I will send you a hand made art card thanking you for your fabulous support, which you can stick on your fridge or put in a frame to enjoy as a piece of art!
  • This is a fixed cost project. If I don’t meet my goal no one is charged and no cards go out :(
  • The closing date to pledge for this project is November 30th, and the cards will be sent out immediately following this deadline during the first week of December.

The Impact

The impact of this is two fold:

  • You will have helped an emerging artist build her audience AND if all cards are sent,
  • 800 people will be glowing, having received a card from a friend, with either a Christmas thank you, or a general, I was thinking of you. There is nothing better when you open your mail box than finding an envelope that doesn’t have a window in it!

Other Ways You Can Help
