Summary
I've been
satirising the Scottish independence debate with weekly comic strips since 2012. Now I've gathered these strips together to form the basis of a limited edition book. It's the publishing event of the decade for tubas, and promises to become a historically significant record of the build-up to September's referendum, albeit one written by a complete maniac.
For One Month Only
'Greg Moodie Versus The Union' is a 144-page, full colour toon-fest in an A4 format, with a gloss laminated soft cover and matt coated paper within. Each copy will be signed and numbered, and availability is limited to the month of August. It has a foreword by Scotland On Sunday's Kenny Farquharson but this shouldn't necessarily deter you.
You'll find plenty of fluffy bunnies, nipple clamps, hot tuba action, cardboard cutout Scottish Secretaries, omnisexual nosferatu chancellors, cones for independence, and a man playing the spoons on William Hague's head. In other words, all your favourites, you twisted people. (See gallery images.)
There are four levels of perks. The Bunny-Lite is the downloadable book in pdf form. The Main Moodie is the signed and numbered first edition. The Tubatastic is the signed, numbered first edition along with five exclusive, signed A4 art prints. The Full Moodie is the signed, numbered first edition, the art prints, plus the Greg Moodie Badge Collection.
What Is Needed
The book will be printed in Scotland by Bell & Bain Ltd (who also produced National Collective's Inspired By Independence). Funds of £7000 are needed to cover this cost, along with sturdy packaging and first class postage for each copy.
In Summary
The Scottish independence referendum is a unique event and so too is the publication of this book. What they have in common besides subject matter is that both could only happen now. This is the story of the run-up to the former,
as told by a non-party grassroots Yes supporter with just a pen and tablet and a long history of personal eccentricity.
The National Library of Scotland has formally requested a copy for preservation even before its birth, and the signed first edition has 'cult collector's item' written all over it, but not literally. Don’t miss this chance to own a wacky little piece of contemporary Scottish history.
"A great contribution to the debate and to
Scotland. Brilliant stuff." Elaine C. Smith
Other Ways You Can Help
I know you're all busy trying on tanktops from the new autumn collections, but as this event is to be confined within the covers of August, I'd appreciate if you could help spread the word - on Facebook, Twitter and maybe some of those other ones.
