We combine design backgrounds from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) with a legacy in manufacturing to create Greycork, a company we hope will set a new standard in the furniture industry. We’ve created furniture that has won awards at major furniture expos, including the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF). We use design principles established by RISD, IDEO and MIT, and we've participated in programs with Brown and Better World by Design.

The Greycork Sofa and Chaise are the first pieces available in the Greycork Living Room Set. Our sofa and chaise was designed to be a high quality product at a great price, and, to have minimal components to make assembly and transport easier for you.

Designs for the coffee table, side table, and bookshelf were sequenced after the sofa and chaise, and are under development. We are excited about these pieces, and if you like the aesthetic of the sofa, we think you’ll like the rest of the set, too.

The aesthetic theme of our furniture is Japanese / American. We’re inspired by top furniture designers like George Nakashima, Charles and Ray Eames, each of whom influence our approach to design.

Fiberfill foam is soft and fluffy. With this stuffed inside the back pillows, they are great for lounging, TV-binging, napping, or having friends or family members sleep over for a night or two.

The seat cushions are both supportive and soft, perfect for relaxing. We've achieved superior feel by using two different densities of foam and then wrapping it in a plush layer of polyester fiber.

Our hardware is so simple, no tools are required.
Six thumb nuts and six washers are easily attached by hand to build your sofa. Together, they compress and stabilize your back frame to the surface area of the base frame.

We wanted to make it easy for you to keep our furniture. We’ve made it simple to disassemble, move to a new home, and reassemble without losing any parts or structural integrity of the product.

The boxes were designed to fit under standard doorway heights and into elevators, so you won’t have a problem getting the product into your home. We will ship complete units from our fulfillment facility in Massachusetts to anywhere in the United States. All orders will include online parcel tracking and insurance.

We Need Your Help: The contributions we raise in the pre-order campaign will allow us to place orders with vendors, and pay for design, validation and testing of the coffee table, side table and bookshelf, as well as set up a dedicated production cell in our manufacturer’s factory.

The first Greycork prototype was built during a rainy weekend in June 2013, with hardware and materials purchased from Home Depot, and a sketch of a coffee table on a piece of notepad paper.

With diverse upbringings - backgrounds in manufacturing, industrial design and furniture design - the team set out to create a new furniture brand. Why did you make a living room set?
Our user-centered design process begins with understanding the user’s mindset regarding the home. In this case, we found users tend to think about the living room most, when thinking about their home. Then, we found a user’s primary aspiration for their home was a social space. Based on the data, the living room was a natural first collection.
Will it fit in my home?
The collection was designed to fit perfectly in many different types of homes. Our primary intention was to design for the modern user. As a result, we made sure the living room would fit well in tight urban living areas, but also would fit in traditional suburban homes.
Do you ship to Europe, Asia, Mexico, South America, Africa, or Australia?
Unfortunately, no. At this time we are shipping only to the USA.
Can I receive my products before December? Please? What if I buy a sample or prototype?
Unfortunately, no. We have a very limited number of samples available, and we are using them for our own photography, further user testing, and so we can sit down in our office! We wish we could guarantee shipping prior to December, but unfortunately we cannot.
What is the depth of the sofa?
Without cushions, the depth of the sofa seat is 30".
How tall are the back cushions?
The back cushions are 17.5" tall.
When will it ship?
The sofa and chaise will ship by December 2015, and the Coffee Table, Side Table, and Bookshelf will ship by the end of January.
Is it comfortable?
Yes. The cushioning was designed so that we could achieve the comfort level found in big, comfy couches, but also create a product with superior ergonomic attributes. Since the sofa can also be used as a bed, the layered foam ventilates for a comfortable sleeping temperature.
Who should buy the living room kit?
Because the prices are so low, anyone who is moving soon, or just looking to upgrade their furniture should buy this collection.
Is it easy to set up?
The sofa is able to be set up in under four minutes by one person, without the use of any tools. It was designed to be intuitive to assemble, but we have included an instruction sheet just in case.
Can I take it apart if I need to move?
Yes, the dis-assembly process can also be done with zero tools, in under four minutes. Because the sofa is made with minimal components, it is more easily transported than any other furniture options on the market.
What colors do you offer?
To start, we’re offering the Ash wood and Grey fabric as our standard option, with Limited Edition additions from our friends in the Design Community as limited edition options.
Why are the coffee table, side table, and bookshelf shipping after the sofa?
Because the sofa and chaise are the centerpiece of the living room, we wanted to get them to you as soon as possible. We’re a small team, and need to make sure every product is made with careful attention to detail. Therefore, we built the sofa and chaise first, and sequenced the other products behind it.
Can I get a refund?
Pre-orders are not refundable. By making a contribution to this campaign, you acknowledge that you understand that you are contributing to a work-in-progress and not making a direct purchase. For more details please see Indiegogo's Terms of Use.
How do I choose more than one perk?
