Thanks to all our supporters for reaching the goal so easily. The campaign ended, but you can still pre-order the Abissi watch at a pre-order price, before the the delivery starts. The idea

The peculiarness of just high priced watches sparked in us - a group of watch professionals and enthusiasts from Slovenia - an interest. We asked ourselves:

is it possible to build a top grade Swiss Made dive watch at reasonable price?

Long story short, we found out that not only we can build a high quality certified product for the same prices as other brands, but we can even substantially lower the retail price of the timepiece. Although we had opportunities to develop our product under already established brand names, we took the rather bold decision to build a new brand from scratch. This would give us freedom in design, market positioning and overall brand recognition.

The answer to the ‘’fairly priced’’ question took 4 years and considerable resources. But finally, in nov. 2015 the last pieces fell into place and we are proud to present - the Haldor Abissi.

Haldor is a Scandinavian name, derived from the Old Norse words 'hallr', which means 'rock', and 'Thor', the 'god of thunder' in Norse mythology.

Haldor Abissi 1000m

Haldor Abissi is an automatic dive watch capable of withstanding water pressure up to a depth of 1000m/3300ft. Equipped with a Swiss Made ETA 2824-2 automatic movement (adjusted in 5 positions to a Top Grade level), is without any doubt the most accurate dive watch in its class. By »top grade« we are referred to the accuracy of the movement.

Although the design is what most watch enthusiasts see first, it’s not where the process of making a timepiece starts. Before the size of the case, the shape of the hands, the thickness of the sapphire crystal,...is the actual centerpiece of the device: the movement. We could opt for a number of decent quality manufacturers, that would nicely fit into the expected price range of our product, but we didn’t want compromises. Therefore the choice was obvious. We choose the most commonly used automatic movement in Swiss brands like: Tudor, Tag Heuer, Breitling and many other. The ETA 2824-2 automatic movement.

What’s so special about Swiss watches?

Swiss watches are famed for their accuracy, superb craftsmanship and tradition. So when purchasing a Swiss Made watch you aren't just purchasing a time piece you are purchasing history. Something you will be proud of and want to pass down for generation to generation.

When it comes to Swiss watches, we all know how accurate they are. When we choose the ETA 2824-2 movement, known for its robustness and accuracy, we started comparing its accuracy with high-end luxury watches. The accuracy was very close, but we wanted more! So we asked ourselves:

Can we reach the COSC Chronometer accuracy?

COSC is, the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute, which is the institute responsible for certifying the accuracy and precision of wristwatches in Switzerland. Those watches are know as the most accurate watches in the world. Making this tests would significantly increase the final price of our product, so we couldn‘t afford it. Before we started with the design we also had to buy a stock of ETA 2824-2 movements. There is a very limited quantity on the market and the retail price is too high. We had to find an other way.

The solution

The solution was in our Swiss manufacturing company. As a professional company according to the strict rules of Switzerland watchmaking, they are able to supply us the Swiss Made ETA 2824-2 at price which is suitable for us. We still had to make a full payment in advance and wait for a long delivery time. But we are here for a long run project so we did it!

Thanks to our Swiss partner we are able to adjust the already very accurate movement ETA 2824-2 to a Top Grade level. The 2824-2 is an automatic winding, twenty-five jewel movement, available in four grades: Standard, Elaborated (improved), Top and Chronometer.

To illustrate the differences in accuracy garnered by the successive grades, consider the following specifications:

Haldor Abissi, our first product, is accurate like a COSC Chronometer! This is possible when an ETA 2824-2 movement is adjusted in 5 positions to a Top Grade level.

THE ACCURACY

You can see the accuracy of Haldor Abissi is about +4,5s/d with a maximum dialy variation of 7sec. The results are fascinating and we are proud of it. Each watch supplied by Haldor Watches will pass the quality control and water pressure tests. Every single watch will be adjusted to a top grade level, which will come with its technical data of accuracy shown like on photo. We guarantee out of the box accuracy of about +4s/d.

THE DESIGN

Although there are many generic cases in the market, we wanted our watch to be unique. When the movement was chosen, the next step was to study the case design which will most perfectly fit the ETA 2824-2.

Our watches are designed to be robust, durable, precise, functional and to satisfy the customer's own.

WATER RESISTANCE

The Abissi is made to survive at extreme pressure conditions. Built in high-end materials like marine grade 316L stainless steel, zirconia ceramic bezel and ultra reisistant sapphire crystal, is capable of withstanding water pressure down to 1000m (3300feet).

Haldor Abissi is equipped with an automatic helium release valve. It’s purpose is to allow gases to escape from the watch. When the pressure outside the watch reaches levels that are significantly different from levels inside of the watch, the valve is activated, releasing the trapped helium atoms and lowering the pressure inside of the watch.

The case incorporates a Zirconia (ZrO2) ceramic bezel inlay water resistant up to depths of 1000m (3300ft). Zirconia is a silica-free, acid-resistant, polycrystalline ceramic that has no amorphous silica glass component. It is much harder than regular ceramic and is almost impossible to scratch it.

To ensure the best visibility at night, we didn't use classic printing method on dial. When printing is not possible to apply enough powder. That's why the Super-LumiNova C3 powder is applied by hand!

The watch passed all pressure and water resistance tests made in the Swiss lab.

Warranty and packing

You will receive the watch in a high quality PU leather box placed in a black inner carton box with Haldor logo. We will send you by email the PDF file with the testing results of the watch accuracy.

The watch is covered by a 2 years guarantee against manufacturing or material defects. We will, within two years from date of purchase, repair or replace the movement of your watch free of charge if the movement proves to be defective in material or workmanship under normal use. The warranty does not cover damage arising from normal wear, scratches, accidents or misuse, or from any alteration, service or repair performed by any party other than Haldor Watches.

The story

Our story begun in 2009 when we started searching for right partners to create our own watch brand. It took us 4 years to find and sign all agreements for cooperation with external companies and partners. In 2013 we formalised our commitment with the incorporation of the company and started working full time on the project.

We knew from the beginning that the level of expertise and professionality of our partners have to be top notch. Our demands were very high and the whole process was no walk in the park. We queried over a dozen of companies to identify the best fit for our project. They host the manufacturing for the most famous Swiss and German brands.

By »Swiss Made« we are not limited to the Swiss movement. We mean that all our products will have Swiss-Origin certificate. So our watches are manufactured in Switzerland according to the strict rules of Switzerland watchmaking, from the preliminary stages to the assembly of each component, quality and technical controls.
