HEALING WAVES TAROT DECK

It was definitely a tough year for many of us, with lots of unexpected changes and fears and challenges all over the world. Not only physically but also mentally and spiritually as well. 

I began my journey and came across tarot a few years ago, that was when my interest in spiritual path grew. Normally when my energy is low I naturally bring myself near the body of water. Watching the waves crashing the shores and the horizon of the sea meets the sky like they have magical power to calm and to heal.
But if I was not near the ocean, I would paint.
I have been a professional illustrator for more than 10 years. I do art digitally and traditionally. I can say I perform well on both. But my favourite method is always watercolor.

In water color painting, you can not rush, you cannot be too slow. It has its timing when things will workout as we work on it, and the time it will work on itself like magic. It helps me be in the moments, observe and feel the power of creativity. 

For that reason I decided to create a project that focuses on the healing aspects of all those elements combined. To paint 78 tarot cards illustrations in the theme of oceans and natures in watercolor painting. But instead of using tap water, I used the water collected from the ocean directly as my painting medium. As we know, the effect of salt water with watercolor will be different from normal water and it’s something I enjoy exploring.  

This deck is not only made as the artist’s collection tarot, but also created with an intention to help us explore the depth of their soul, to reflect, to heal.

About the deck

The healing waves tarot deck is based on the traditional Rider-Waite Smith messages.

The deck will be printed in full colored, round cornered, 7cm x 12 cm cards with a small paper handbook in the box. 

The deck will contained 78 cards, 22 Major arcana and 56 Minor arcana
Cardstock will be 330gsm smooth Germany black core paper with matte laminate coating.

The illustration on the cards will be painted with watercolor, using water that I collected from the ocean as a medium with an intention to combine the healing aspect of mother nature and art into artwork. All the illustrations are originally created in ocean related themes.  

The deck is independently produced in limited numbers and will not be sold on Amazon or public.

Some of the card, such as The fool, contained many of original Rider-Waite Smith visual elements.

Some has different visual elements, Ace of pentacle, but still telling the same message as the original.

So the key elements are still remained.

For the minor arcana cards, each suits are their elements. The earth for the pentacle suit, the fire for the wands/staves suit, the air for the sword suit and the water for the cup suit. They're represented by sea life and animal of the ocean, AND some mermaids (or divers) :D
They are mostly using the narrative and scheme from RWS, that they're easy for the reader to read. 

For the court cards they are represented by the creatures also, For example the albatross for the king of sword, sea salamander for the knight of wands.

The Energy of the Healing Wave tarot deck

The deck was fully created with intentions of healing, for the creator herself and also for others as water color is also one of the most popular methods in art therapy as well. 

With the light, calming and refreshing tone of watercolor pictures and natural looking of the illustrations the energy will toward soothing sides and the silver lining in the dark situations.     

As well as the depth of the ocean I wish the users can use the deck as a navigator to explore the depth of their mind and soul, as when they’re facing big waves, storms and also discover their pearls.

Goal 

As a professional illustrator myself. My goal is to deliver all the 78 cards illustrations and produce them into a fully physical tarot deck in the highest quality of illustration and production I can possibly achieve. If the original goal is reached my next plan is to improve it further.   

The stretch goal will be as follow,

6,200$ - fully funded 

7,000$ - Add 1 extra bonus card in each decks (Will be 22 Major + 56 Minor + 1 extra card)

7,800$ - Replace tucked paper box with substantial paper box for every decks

The estimated shipping time would be around late spring, May-June 2021 depending on the world’s situation. I want to make sure everyone gets the best quality of artwork and physical products.

  
Budget distribution

As in the chart below. Part of the campaign money will go to Indiegogo fee and taxes.
The rest will go to the production part. For the art supplies I use in painting such as colors and papers or graphic design softwares for cards and books layout I covered it myself :)

Challenge & Risk 

Due Covid-19 the production and shipping might be delayed. But I’ll try to have spare time as much as possible and will keep posting updates closely with everyone.   

About me

I have been a professional illustrator for 10+ years, both on traditional methods and digital. But usually I draw traditionally for healing and experimenting more than for commercial purposes. So now I’m currently working in digital art industry and only paint when I feeling drawn toward it.I passionate about bringing ideas into vision and observe the reaction of the mediums I used when they interacted with each others.I came across tarot and can also read it myself, surrounded myself with many talented readers who helped me expanded my knowledge and gave me the sparks to start this project.
