Overview
San Jose is the birthplace of great heavy music (Sleep and High on Fire got their start here). The first annual Beers in Hell festival keeps the heavy spirit alive with 11 awesome bands from the bay area and beyond. 100% of the proceeds from the presale ticket and merch campaign will go to the bands. We'll also have a 12-tap takeover with 4 killer breweries, and a special firkin of hell brew! NOTE: you have to do a separate transaction for each presale ticket or add-on pack!

Beers in Hell Fest 2016

For 1 day only, we're bringing together great heavy bands from San Jose, Oakland, Santa Cruz, Sacramento, San Diego, Oceanside, and Jerome Arizona! The band styles vary, but you can expect everyone to riff their way through some heavy duty rock and metal.

Through this pre-sale campaign you can get access to exclusive event merch  that will not be available to buy at the event, and ensure you get in; Johnny V's Bar is not huge, and we intend to pack it full and wrap a line around the corner.

Location:
Johnny V's Bar: 31 E Santa Clara St, San Jose, CA 95113
21 and over

Date and Time:
Saturday September 24th from 5;00pm until the wheels fall off

Bands:
Blackwülf (Oakland), Zed (San Jose), Crimson Eye (Sacramento), Great Electric Quest (Oceanside), KOOK (San Jose), Mesmer (Oakland), Red Wizard (San Diego), Smoke (Santa Cruz), Supernaut (Santa Cruz), TVSK (Oakland), and War Cloud (Oakland).

Beers:
12-tap takeover with brewery reps (who happen to be music lovers) on site hanging out; we'll pick whatever is fresh and tasty from Ballast Point, Lagunitas, Firestone Walker, and Santa Clara Valley Brewing the week of the event, and Brewmaster Steve Donohue of SCVB will cook up a firkin of Hell Brew just for the fest.

Art:

A big thanks to San Jose artist Pete Krieger (AKA Kriegz) for the awesome art!

Event Sponsors

This massive, awesome, colossal, super-mega show could only happen thanks to great sponsors, including:

But sponsors alone aren't enough to make sure this event is great, and that we get all these bands (and more) back next year...that's where you come in.

Support the Heavy Underground

We know you love these bands (or will by the end of the event), but why would you buy a presale ticket instead of just picking one up at the door the day of?

All the great bands we're bringing to play at BHF 2016 are accustomed to grinding the road, battling adversity, and playing for little or no money. Red Wizard guitar player Miles Von Ricketson literally smashed his hand to bits moving amps around mid-tour, and kept going.

The presale money for this event goes directly to the bands. Buying presale and add-on packages ensures that you get in to the event, get access to exclusive merch, and support the bands as they continue to write, record, and tour.

Ticket Presale

We have a variety of presale ticket/merch packages as perks here on indiegogo, in limited quantities. The merch you see here will ONLY be available via Indiegogo...there will be no fest merch available at the show. Tickets will be delivered electronically (or bring your ID the day of the show and we'll keep a list).

Each presale package includes a ticket to the event, and then a variety of merch: posters, t-shirts, beer glasses, merch grab-bags, and other highly limited goodies.

See the perks for for more detail on pre-sale packages and add-ons. All merch will be available for pick up at the show. If you buy a pre-sale package, and for whatever reason cannot attend the event, never fear...we'll ship you your goodies after the show!

NOTE: any presale packages that include alcohol (beer tickets or the Dark Lord's cellar selections) are vouchers for alcohol that must be picked up in person.

Add-On Perks

We also have add-on perks; add-on perks DO NOT include event tickets. You'll have to do an extra transaction for each perk you add. Check back often...we'll be adding perks over the course of the campaign, but we're starting with these:

Merch Detail

Here's what the pre-sale exclusive shirt will look like (you can expect the same stunning quality from all of the merch):

Not Attending, but Still want to Participate?

We've got you covered; order a merch-only pack and we'll ship it to you after the event...so it will be almost like you were there. Though it will be way better if you're there. You can also buy and gift any package to a friend...just let us know who it's for, and we'll set it up.

Meet the Bands

Want to learn more about the bands playing BHF? Here you go!

Blackwülf (Oakland, CA)

The band – featuring vocalist Alex Cunningham, guitarist Pete Holmes, drummer Dave Pankenier and bassist Scott Peterson – prowls the musical feeding grounds of stoner rock, doom-cloaked soundscapes and vintage heavy metal. Dark sonic forests provide coverage for their unholy mix of parapsychological anger and aggression, and bluesy head-banging riffs.

Website   Music   Facebook

Crimson Eye (Sacramento, CA)

Heavy tunes from 4 dudes from Sacramento. Crimson Eye is Russ Partanen - Low End, Jeff Buxbaum - Rhythms, Rob Dickson - Riffs, Carl Arana - Vocalizations.

Music   Facebook

KOOK (San Jose, CA)

KOOK is from San Jose, the origin of the heaviest of heavy, and they're from the San Jose lineage that birthed bands like Sleep and High on Fire. The music is rich, complicated, hypnotic, dark, spooky, sleazy, powerful, groovy, spooky, campy, blah, blah, blah....HEAVY.

Website   Facebook

Great Electric Quest (Oceanside, CA)

Shredding music in general. stuff you can drink beer and rock out to with some good friends..."The Great Electric Quest impressed the hell out of me standing alone in a scene saturated with either uber droney doom or trendy desert stoner rawk. They don't quite fit in with any cliché sounds and there's no gimmick, just straight up rock n roll full of energy and brimming with meaty grooves." (Bucky Brown, The Ripple Effect)

Music   Facebook

Mesmer (Oakland, CA)

"Peter, Nick, Pope, and Dave are adeptly channeling some vintage rock nuances in these over-the-top tracks. Bursting with chugging Thin Lizzy-esque riffs and no nonsense, straight forward rhythms and drumming. The harmonious dual guitars are something I always enjoy, always appreciate and they are given a full work out on this effort’s sonic contents and while the term “retro” is more than applicable, there’s more than enough modern styling to please listeners as well." (Metal Nexus)

Music   Facebook

Red Wizard (San Diego, CA)

Steeped in the pre-1978 sounds synonymous with Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, Red Wizard have developed a sizable and almost effortless reputation in the Californian underground metal community as a unique and energetic live act. Helped in no small part by last year’s release of their self-titled/STB Records-approved EP Red Wizard, across seven new tracks, easily their heaviest collection to date, Cosmosis explores the depths and majesty of ’70s metal and contemporary stoner rock. Placing huge riffs, blazing vocals and bone shaking rhythms amid a wide expanse of progressive sonic assaults..

Music   Facebook

Smoke (Santa Cruz, CA)

Smoke is a Three piece making loud noises for your heavy memories, featuring Steve Campbell (drums), Jake Griffiths (bass), and Bobby Daly (guitar). Smoke is heavily influenced by Ralph Bakshi, poverty, classic rock, inebriation, heavy blues, boredom, existential crisis, outer space, altered states, and YouTube.

Facebook

Supernaut (Santa Cruz, CA)

Santa Cruz rock trio Supernaut have emerged from the void to deliver heavy psychedelic fuzz to the masses. Formed in early 2014, the band features Will Lermini on bass, Oliver Niemann on guitar, and Sean Niemann on vocals and drums.

Music   Facebook

TVSK (Oakland, CA)

The brainchild of Justin Dimig and Nick Baumgartner, Tvsk was conceived in January of 2014. Nick and Justin bonded over their love of High on Fire, Sleep, Neurosis, OM, Melvins, and all other things that are metal and heavy, and decided to start writing their own music as a bass and drum duo.

Music   Facebook

War Cloud (Oakland, CA)

War Cloud is Alex Wein (vocals/guitar), Tony Campos (guitar/vocals), Sean Nishi (bass/vocals), and Joaquin Ridgell (drums/vocals). "The Oakland four-piece epitomizes everything that made and makes hard rock great, from the heavy grooves to the excellent musicianship displayed by each member. Their debut EP Hurricane is full of wailing guitars, killer drum fills and enough rockstar cool to fill the stadiums they ought to be playing." (Nicholas Schneider, The Bay Bridged)

Music   Facebook

ZED (San Jose)

The Valley of the Riff is well inhabited and plentiful in its offerings and the beauty of its vast sprawl is that there is room for many. Making their presence well-known with heavy footprints and sonically indelible marks are San Jose-based Earth shakers ZED. A sound based on core principles of the blues, heaviness, groove, and feel this San Francisco Bay Area quartet is the genuine article.
