I'm Susan Schwartz, a native of Florida currently residing in Germany who is a friend of Carla and Hal Hagood who reside in the Great Smoky Mountains in beautiful North Carolina.  I volunteered to take the time and efforts for a cause I feel is worthy of every second I can spare to help Carla obtain postoperative care following a long awaited kidney transplant she will undergo as soon as a kidney from the right donor is located.  Carla is extremely grateful to have been approved for her transplant after being on the waiting list for several years through the Duke University Transplant Program.

  Unfortunately the insurance company does not cover the associated costs for essentials such as hotel and food for Carla and Hal to stay away from home in Durham, NC for 30 days near to the University she will require following her surgery.   I couldn’t think of a better way to contribute to her chance of her receiving good quality care following receipt of her new organ. An imperative part of the healing process for organ recipients relies on the disposition and stress of the patient as the body adjusts to the new kidney and this is assured if the patient has quality care and relaxing rest as well. 

  Because of your generosity in offering what you can towards Carla’s campaign, you would be contributing to the reality of her going off dialysis, which she currently receives four times per week so she can launch a new start at good health and longevity. If she cannot raise the funds for her postoperative expenses she will have to postpone the surgery until she can.

  Carla, Hal and their family are extremely appreciative for the help you may provide and if not possible to make a contribution, would you help me in sharing Carla's story with others who may be able to make a contribution?
