Hawassa University is a major university in Southern Ethiopia that has 4 campuses with colleges covering the major curriculum areas including: agriculture, veterinary science, engineering, medicine, natural resources, natural sciences, business, technology, construction management, sport sciences, hotel management and tourism.
The university is relatively new and although the much of the infrastructure has been built, the school lacks many of the basic teaching supplies and resourses.

One of the largest needs is for books and journals. While most western universities have switched over to electronic access to materials, many developing countries don't have the internet capability, nor access to enough computers to service the students' needs. Hard copies of books and journals are still the best way for students and faculty to access information.
The picture below shows ALL the biology- and physics-related books available at the university for the 30,000+ students and faculty.

Hawassa University has three libraries where students spend most of their time studying, yet the number of research materials is severely lacking. Books number in the
dozens and there are few journals, most of which are several years old.
This is one of the major teaching facilities for the future leaders of Ethiopia, yet the students lack the materials to get a quality education, severely hampering their success.Although we are receiving a large number of book and journal donations from Colorado State University and the Fort Collins community,
there are some specific materials requested by the university, especially sets of textbooks that can be used in the classroom and specialized reference materials, that will need to be purchased.
We are seeking funding to buy these materials and add them to the donated materials to be sent to Ethiopia in April.

Above, volunteers sort the donations of books that have been collected in Fort Collins so far.
However, this still isn't enough to fulfill the requests of the university and fill that library with needed resources! Your contributions allow us to fulfill these requests and ensure that the students of Hawassa University have up-to date and fully accessible materials.
