How Khan Academy is helping
Here are the stories of some of the 40 million registered students that Khan Academy has helped to master content and succeed.
Sal Khan, sir, you are totally my hero. Ever since kindergarten I had been really excited at the prospect of studying physics. But when I did begin to study pure physics, I realized that my teachers and I had completely different ideas about how the subject should be taught. The intuition-oriented teaching I looked for was not to be found in my school and I used to stay with my doubts for hours without anyone to go to. But once I began watching your lectures and had my bizarrely abstract questions answered, I realized that I was not dumb to be curious after all. You didn't only teach me Physics, you restored my faith in myself for which I can never be grateful enough. You are the best!

I attended college shortly after high school in 2005, [but] found myself struggling and failing classes. I decided to join the military, then worked in a warehouse shortly after that. I came across Khan Academy and used it to hone my math skills to do inventory management. I realized how much I had not learned correctly over the years, and Khan Academy inspired me to get back into college. I left my warehouse job and enrolled in my old university under the Computer Engineering program. I took on Calculus 2 and several other tough courses. I passed that semester with a 4.0. Thanks to Khan Academy, I was able to get my life back on track, my grades up, and my mind sharper. I am thankful that Khan Academy is provided for free, and I will continue to donate monthly to ensure that others will have the opportunity that I did.

One Man, One Computer, 10 Million Students: How Khan Academy Is Reinventing Education
"The site covers a staggering array of topics–from basic arithmetic and algebra to the electoral college and the French Revolution. The videos are quirky affairs where you never see the instructor. Instead, students are confronted with a blank digital blackboard, which, over the course of a ten-minute lesson narrated in Khan’s soothing baritone, is gradually filled up with neon-colored scrawls illustrating key concepts. The intended effect is working through homework at the kitchen table with your favorite uncle looking over your shoulder."

Can Khan Academy’s Free SAT Prep Level the Playing Field?
“It’s a radically democratic reboot of the test-prep industry, which up until now reserved its advantages for the relatively well-heeled who could afford their pricey tutorials.”

Sultana is a young woman in Afghanistan who lost access to education at the age of 11 after receiving threats of acid burnings if she continued to go to school. She primarily used Khan Academy to teach herself since then. We're proud that she was profiled by Nicholas Kristof in the New York Times.
