Girls' and women’s soccer has a long tradition of success in the greater Milwaukee area, yet most of that success has been limited to those in the suburban counties surrounding Milwaukee whose residents have the financial means and access to pursue it. Milwaukee United Soccer Club aims to be different, in that we want to take this built-in advantage out of the equation and allow any player within the county the opportunity to play the game at an elite, competitive level. Starting with players already invested in the game, we wish to develop a team that will play in a regional or national-level summer league for post-secondary school players, with older youth teams created in due course. By helping Milwaukee United Soccer Club get off the ground, you will be offering girls and women in our community the opportunity to continue in the game (either on or off-the-field) while also providing them a platform from which to pursue academic, athletic, and professional goals.
I have been involved in the game of soccer for over 30 years, beginning as a U8 player in the Milwaukee Kickers. After my high school playing career, I became a coach of the girls' soccer team at Riverside University High School in Milwaukee, part of the Milwaukee Public Schools system. Despite being a "city" school, we were able to achieve a high level of success on the field (three consecutive state tournament appearances plus two sectional finals in a seven-year timespan, all while girls' soccer was a one-class sport in Wisconsin) as well as have players of ours continue their careers at the college level. I want to give that same chance to current and future generations of players.
The money raised from this campaign will go to secure our membership in a league for the 2013 season and pay for necessary equipment and fees for the team. Please spread the word about this endeavor and thank you for your support. To learn more about Milwaukee United SC, check out our Facebook page or our WordPress blog (links to both are below).
