The book I’ll be completing was started by one of the Astrological greats of our time—Jan Spiller, world-renowned author of Astrology for the Soul. 

When Jan transitioned in 2016, she left a treasure trove of notes with me for the companion book to this one, to be titled Awakening the Soul’s Purpose. By contributing to the creation of this book, you will be helping people gain access to much-needed astrological information in an easy-to-understand format. 

My name is Stephanie Shea and I am the Chief Astrologer for janspiller.com. I started working as an astrology writing apprentice for world-renowned astrologer and author Jan Spiller in 2012. I was introduced to Jan by my first astrology teacher, Emily Trinkaus, who had been working for Jan as a writer and editor for several years. As her long-time assistants, Emily and I and know Jan's astrological interpretations intimately, in addition to feeling like family. By mentoring Emily and myself, Jan has created a powerful lineage to continue her work. I am so proud to be completing Jan's final book with Emily as my editor. 

Jan Spiller’s most popular book, Astrology for the Soul, is a collector’s item and has been an invaluable resource to millions of people for trusted astrological guidance. Using the interpretation of the North Node, this book offers clear, positive and practical advice on how to align with your soul’s purpose for exponentially increased satisfaction and success. It does so through deeper understanding of the astrological signs. But as Jan’s readers and the growing numbers of conscious people finding her work have been asking: what does it mean when the North Node lies in any one of the 12 astrological houses?

In the years before her passing in 2016, Jan started writing her 6th book: Awakening Your Soul’s Purpose: North Node Astrology through the Houses. This book had always been imagined by Jan as the third book in a trilogy that began with Astrology for the Soul (1997), and continued with Cosmic Love (2008). Jan wanted to create this trilogy of books to thoroughly cover the theme of the North Node, an astrological point in everyone's birth chart indicating which energies will be successful in this lifetime. 

Astrology for the Soul explains the meaning of the sign of the North Node in an individual chart. Cosmic Love covers how the North Node can operate for people within relationships. After reading these books, many readers were left wanting more answers about what it means to have their North Node in a certain house. The houses in an astrological chart indicate areas of life and add a new layer of information to the North Node interpretation. While some people may be able to synthesize the information in Astrology for the Soul to piece together what it might mean to have their North Node in the first house, second house, etc., a more thorough and clear-cut explanation is necessary. Hence, Jan began her work on Awakening Your Soul's Purpose. Before her passing, Jan asked that we complete this book for her.

Armed with a good working outline and insightful notes from Jan, I will be doing the research and writing needed to complete this book. It is an absolute honor to be fulfilling the mission of my mentor and getting this essential information about the North Node through the houses out into the world.

The book will have one chapter for each of the twelve astrological houses in a birth chart, such as North Node in the First House, North Node in the Second House, North Node in the Third House, etc. At the end of each chapter will be a section called "Putting it All Together," which will break down each sign in each house. The end of each chapter will have detailed descriptions of what it means for the North Node of each zodiac sign to be in a that specific house. No matter what your North Node sign and house placement is, you will be able to find out exactly what it means!

The book will be published by Citrine Publishing, run by Penelope Love, who is passionate about Jan's work. Upon meeting Penelope, I knew instantly that this was the publisher meant for this project. Like Jan, Penelope is a spiritual student of Ramana Maharshi. When Penelope saw Ramana Maharshi in Jan's acknowledgements for Astrology for the Soul, she felt a profound connection to Jan and her work. A professional editor since 1997, Penelope launched her career at Barnes & Noble and Health Communications, Inc. (HCI, Chicken Soup for the Soul) and has edited and designed award-winning books for dozens of authors published traditionally and independently. Penelope is dedicated to creating a beautiful design for this book and ensuring it gets the sales and marketing support it deserves.

By contributing, you will be offering me financial stability while I put other income-generating activities, such as personal astrology readings, on hold to dedicate time to this book. You'll also be covering Citrine Publishing and Emily Trinkaus's modest fees for their services. But most importantly, you'll be helping Jan fulfill her vision and getting absolutely essential astrological information out to people so they can empower themselves with self-knowledge and hold higher and higher vibrations of peace and harmony that benefit the entire planet Earth and beyond.

We are aiming to raise $25,000 with this campaign. We're not expecting something for nothing, however! Here's the breakdown of where the funds will go:

$13,500 will cover a $1500/mo. stipend for me while I put some of my regular paying astrology clients on hold to focus on this book. This will allow me to dedicate about 2 weeks per month to the book for 9 months (October through June), after which time the bulk of the writing should be done and I can begin to add more astrology clients back into my schedule.

$5,400 will go to the publishing fees, which cover services such as typesetting, book design (including cover design), marketing, distribution, etc. (all the stuff I would never have time for and couldn't do nearly as professionally).

$1,500 will pay Emily for her editing services

$5,000 will cover the costs of hard copy books and shipping to our rewards recipients.

I realize that this adds up to $25,400 but believe me, we will be just as happy with $25,000! With that said, if we exceed our goal, the extra funds will be saved in an account that will go towards translating this book into Spanish language. 

Should we fall short of this goal, we have a plan B. We hope this doesn't happen, but if additional funds are needed after running this campaign for 60 days, we will launch a Go Fund Me campaign to solicit donations to reach our goal.

The additional insight offered by Awakening will give fans of Astrology a more in-depth, specific and complete understanding of their North Node. Risks & Challenges

There is almost no risk involved for our backers. The worst-case scenario would be not raising enough on Indiegogo and needing to launch a Go Fund Me campaign to make up the rest. There is always the small chance that we wouldn't make our goal on Go Fund Me, but we would persevere in raising the funds, no matter how long it takes. This just means our backers would have to wait longer for their rewards, but this book WILL be completed and published. The sooner we get funding, the more quickly we can finish the book. It is our belief that it will get funded right away here on Indiegogo.

The writing and research is scheduled to begin in October 2021 and go through June 2022. This is a rough estimate. Once the writing is underway, it will be easier to determine if more or less time is needed. Stephanie Shea has a degree in journalism, and worked in the daily newsroom after graduating college. This gives her superpowers when it comes to meeting deadlines! To ensure her success, Stephanie has lightened her regular workload for the coming months and blocked out time on the calendar each month for the writing to take place.

The only potential challenge in this plan would be an unforeseen life event that would force Stephanie to put the writing on pause. If this were to happen, the writing process would resume again as soon as possible. Stephanie has strong Earth sign energy in her birth chart, with an emphasis on the sign of Capricorn. Those who study astrology know that Capricorn is a sign associated with taking responsibility and getting the job done. You can trust Stephanie to be true to her word and finish this project no matter what. 

A book on the North Node in the houses would not have been marketable to the general public 20 years ago. While a reader can simply look up the sign of their North Node in the tables included in Astrology for the Soul, to identify the house of the North Node they need a copy of their birth chart. This step would have been prohibitive in the past, but now charts are readily available for free online—readers will be directed to access easy-to-read, free charts on janspiller.com. Readers who do not know their time of birth will be challenged to determine what house their North Node is in. However, it will be possible for these readers to benefit from this book as well. By reading the entire book, a person who doesn't know their time of birth may be able to find the chapter that most resonates with them and intuitively find the house of their North Node.
