Short Summary
Ever since I played the Scarecrow in the Mulberry Community Theater’s production of the Wizard of Oz, I’ve had the acting bug. That was in the 8th grade and since then I’ve gotten to be a part of countless plays over the years. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve also realized that I have a passion for writing. I’ve even gone so far as starting my own paper, The Mulberry Monthly, to serve many purposes –one of them being to develop my writing skills. Second City in Chicago is by far one of the best schools in the country for both acting and writing! Their alums include such legends as Bill Murray, Tina Fey, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Steve Carell, & Stephen Colbert, just name a very small few. I’m a realist, I understand I might not be able to “make it” but then again, I just might. If I don’t at least try, I’ll never know. I can’t do it without your help!!
What I Need & What You Get
Classes are just under $300 per credit, which are eight week terms. I intend to take two credits per term, one in acting and one for writing. As a student, I’ll be able to participate in the extended stay program at the hostel, located near Lincoln Park and within walking distance of school. It’s one of the safest neighborhoods in the city and would normally cost thousands of dollars just for a one room studio. My lodging will cost $1,300/month, which is actually about 25% of the rent in this neighborhood, under any other circumstances. Plus, at the hostel, breakfast is provided, internet, TV, a full kitchen and maid service. My target fund will enable me to live there for two full month (eating baloney sandwiches, if need be) and by then I will/should have my feet on the ground. I will wait tables, mop floors, whatever it takes to pay the bills. I'm also excited to say the The Mulberry Monthly will be in the capable hands of Stacy Muntz!
You don’t just have to help out of the charity of your own heart. Contributions will come with their own unique perks. With all/any of them, you’ll be investing in my future success! Thank you!
I hope to meet my goal (or even surpass it), but regardless, every dollar raised will go towards achieving my dreams!
The Impact
This is what your help will mean to me!
- I’ve listed some big names above and I may never be one of them, but why not? Why can’t a guy from Arkansas get a job writing or playing bit parts on lame sitcoms or even join the cast of SNL? Why not?
- I’ve enjoyed success in most everything I’ve done here, especially in the creative fields. Also, my mom thinks I’m really great! The true test, though, is a city like Chicago, where I’ll compete against the best of the best! Can I do it? I won’t know unless I try and I can’t try without your help!
- Please, do what you can. Invest in my future and –really- invest in me. Again, thank you!
