One of our Hungarian Shetlanders Needs Help.
Anett Gyenge (33) and Gergely Barta (32) made Shetland their
home in 2012. You may have been served by Anett, recognised by her striking red
hair, she is a waitress and barmaid at the Shetland and Lerwick Hotel. For the
last few years Gergely, known as Gery, has worked at the Scalloway Meat Company
shop and more recently also at the Thule Bar.
Anett and Gery were traveling to Hungary on holiday and
broke their journey in Stuttgart Germany. They decided to do some
sightseeing and while they were touring a church it started to rain. Anett
slipped on wet cobbled steps outside the church and hit her head badly. She had
to be airlifted to Ludwigsburg hospital where she was put into an induced coma
for 2 weeks, the doctors performed a laryngectomy to help her breath and
removed part of her skull.
Anett and Gery did not have travel insurance,
only the blue, National Insurance issued, EU health insurance cards, Gery does
not speak German, he does not know what the EU health insurance card will cover
and what it won’t cover but what he really needs is money right now to help with day to day living costs.
All of their savings have now been used up on
the cost of him staying with her at the hospital. The Hungarian Government will
not help them because they have lived in the UK too long and paid their taxes
here. He has not been able to contact the UK government services for help.
Anett is now out of her coma but is unable to
talk, write or walk. She cannot remember what happened. She still has to
undergo an operation to place an implant over the gap in her skull. They have
to remain in Germany until she recovers from the implant operation and this
means that they are in real trouble financially.
Friends of the couple have set up this crowd
funding account to bring Anett home to Shetland. Please can you help?
