The Show - Medusa
For Dante she was the erotic power that could destroy men. Freud saw in her hair a nest of terrifying snakes symbolizing castration. For Perseus and his patriarchal culture she was a dangerous female monster to be destroyed.
Medusa’s reputation has transformed over time, and continues to intrigue and inspire us. Women see her as a noble victim of the patriarchy. The fashion house Versace celebrates the lure of her mysterious face and puts it on underwear, luxury bags, and expensive dinnerware. Politically charged media superimposes her image onto powerful, successful women. In our culture now she is once again a power player demanding to be recognized. Demanding we examine the journey from maiden to monster.
Don't close your eyes...you don't want to miss it!

Who We Are
Global Hive Laboratories is an international collective of companies and artists including Fusion Theatre Company in London, Chez Actors in Italy, La Compagnie Certes in France and BoucheWHACKED! Collective in Canada. Together we are committed to breaking down barriers that might exclude portions of the population from artistic dialogue.
The Global Hive spans across continents, bringing together practitioners of varied identities and social locations. With every new collaboration, we seek to expand our understanding of justice, equity, compassion, and storytelling. Our collective is made up of artists who are men, women, trans, and gender-nonconforming, who identify as one or multiple intersections of the following social and cultural groups: Latinx, Black British, African American, Afro-Latinx, Native American, Asian American, Canadian British, Two-Spirit, physically disabled, Blind, Low Vision, Deaf, Hard of Hearing, bi-racial, immigrants, parents, and grandparents. Collectively, we speak English, Spanish, French, Cantonese, Korean, Czech, and Italian.
What have we done so far?
Across 2018 and 2019 we have worked with artists across the world, led research and development workshops and performances in three countries. We have developed a model of anti-exclusionary, multi-sensory theatrical experiences for our audiences. We produced workshops in England, France, Italy and most recently in Chicago, where we performed in multiple neighborhoods. We partnered with cultural and artistic organizations such as Read/Write Library, Pilsen Outpost, En Las Tablas Performing Arts, Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center, and the legendary Steppenwolf Theatre’s Lookout Series!

Our Goal
We are passionate about breaking down as many barriers as possible when it comes to accessing professional art. Over the period, we have refined our model of inclusive theatre, Integrating design and sevices for audience members with disabilities into the creation and rehearsal process. This means that we offer Relaxed Performances with Audio Description, Touch Tours and Captioning services at every show; more ‘traditional’ theatre experiences generally provide these services once or twice in a theatre run and are not often aesthetically or dramatically integrated into the production.
We endeavour to create anti-exclusionary devised theatre through skill sharing, crowdsourced technology, and administrative crossover on a global scale. We create accessible artistic conversations about the issues in our communities and increase awareness of underlying connections and associations between groups who may otherwise not have engaged with one another.
