Short Summary

Spandan  a grassroots non profit is working among the nutritionally vulnerable Korku tribe of Khandwa district in Madhya Pradesh of India. The key focus is to ensure household food security, save children from malnutrition and preserve their endangered language.

The Campaign tries to address the nutrition and health needs of children below 3 years being most vulnerable to onset of malnutrition and damages it cause to physical and cognitive development. We want to run 3 community creches that will reach out to 60 children belonging to daily wage earning tribal mothers. The creches will provide feeding, health care and preschool to these children so that they are saved from falling victim to malnutrition and its adverse effects.

Your contribution will make a world of difference in the lives of these kids who otherwise would have stunted growth and may even die.

What We Need & What You Get

It will cost mere $100 a year for a child to help it grow healthy and productive. Not a big cost, isn't it? The contribution will meet feeding, health care and creche  logistics and its operating cost. We need to support 60 children.

We will send our contributors a picture postcard of the children who will benefit with an artistic expression of thanks for support. It will be a memento to feel elated at having helped a deprived child.

Whatever funds come will in any case be used for addressing malnutrition among the Korku tribe children

The Impact

Malnutrition is a major killer of children and India has world's every third child malnourished. The situation in remote tribal dwellings is still worst. Your contribution will save the Korku tribe children from deaths that can be prevented.

Community creches is an innovation as it provides the care much needed for children in their most critical age when most of the body and mind development takes place. As most of the tribal mothers have to daily wage earn the children  are carried to work sites or left at home with other elder child or aged and thus miss out the proper feeding and care and fall easy victim to malnutrition , disease and deaths. We have couple of them and they are showing very positive results.
