He was more
myth than man. His fiction was more plausible than his life. His name was
Ernest Hemingway, perhaps the most famous writer of the 20th
century.
The four
women, whom he would love, marry, and abandon knew him better than he knew
himself. Introducing Hemingway’s Wife,
an original musical telling Hemingway’s life story through his relationship with
the women in his life.
Book, music,
and lyrics by Erin Murray Quinlan, Hemingway’s
Wife is very special - a lovely, sweet, powerful, and funny play about one
of the 20th Century’s most complicated figures. The play will have
its world premiere on May 29 at the Players Ring Theater in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
The show runs for three weekends, ending with a matinee performance on Sunday,
June 14, at 3 pm.
Musicals,
especially musicals which take place over four decades and across five
continents, are expensive. Hemingway’s
Wife needs to raise $2000 to pay for musicians, costumes, and props.
For every $25
donated, you can receive a CD of the play’s original score, recorded in mid-May
by the original cast. For $50, you will receive the compact disc, and a special
collection of The Complete Short Stories
of Ernest Hemingway, autographed by cast members. For every donation of
$10, you can have a signed poster.Your
name will also be published in our program, and watch this space for news on several special books donated and signed by generous friends of the
production. We’ll announce those books and authors in future updates, as the
production gets closer.
