Who We Are
![]()
We are Megan Pham-Quan and Archie Zhang, the producer and writer/director of “Heroes; Or, the Masculine Insecurity,” respectively.
Archie is a medical student at McMaster University with a background in Health Sciences and English Literature and Cultural Studies.
Megan is a first year double major in Philosophy and Women and Gender Studies at the University of Toronto.
Both of us are making our debut in the film industry with “Heroes; Or, the Masculine Insecurity.” The film is set to screen at the 2018 Toronto LGBT Film Festival, Inside Out. With the support of our amazing directing and producing mentors (shout out to Lora Campbell), we are so excited to get started with this fantastic project.

The Impact
![]()
What can I say? We live in a world of heroes and damsels. These are the stories that make the heart go soft, and the mind go mush. Heroes go around their day looking for things to save and proving their worth. When Damsels close their eyes, they picture themselves safe and secure, comfort in the thought that someone will take care of them.
But in this new world of intermixed gender roles and fluid power dynamics, a simple binary simply will not do. Rather than throwing these gender roles out the window, this film advocates that we should learn to step in and step out of these roles accordingly. The film warns not to absorb these gender roles as our identity, but instead use them for what they're there for--a heart-warming exercise in storytelling.
“Heroes; Or, the Masculine Insecurity” will have its world premiere at the Inside Out LGBT Film Festival in Toronto in June. It will reach vast audiences within the queer community and beyond.
