On March 3, 2013, LISTVIEW ranked the Top 10 Shocking Documentaries of all time. High on Crack Street, the documentary film viewed on HBO, was rated 10th. They called it, “A remarkable film about a horrific plague, High on Crack Street is unwavering in its portrayal of crack addiction.”
Two of the filmmakers, Academy Award winner Maryann DeLeo and Richie Farrell spent 18 months following the highs and lows of three crack addicts from Lowell, Massachusetts. HBO had asked the filmmakers to make a documentary film portraying the truth about how crack cocaine was destroying America. Their goal was to create a powerful film that would stand as a deterrent for those heading down the insidious road toward crack addiction. It was successful.
In 2010, Christian Bale won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Dickie Eklund in the movie, The Fighter, based on the documentary film High on Crack Street.
The filmmakers, DeLeo and Farrell, along with Isabel Vega, have joined together to tackle another horrific plague facing America: Heroin Highway. From the cartels, the mules carrying heroin into America’s heartland, to law enforcement’s battle to maintain the spread, to finally, the new and very real faces of heroin addicts in America.
The team will travel and document Heroin Highway, from Robstown, Texas into America’s heartland for 18 months. Heroin Highway will serve as an extremely effective tool to educate, empower and slow down the current heroin epidemic facing America.
