Story Summary
After running away from his abusive father, a young boy living on the streets turns to drugs in order to numb himself and make it through the day. But when he receives an invitation to his sister’s wedding, he tries to sober up so he can see the one person who helped him survive his toxic childhood. In order to do this, he will need to come face-to-face with his addiction.
Why This Story?
This is a story that can connect to anyone and everyone. While the film’s main character struggles with a heroin addiction, this story can be applied to an addiction of any kind. The aim of the film is to portray the distinct feeling of being controlled by a simple object. Everybody is addicted to something, and in many cases these addictions can hold us back from our true potential. I hope this film can inspire people to take the first steps towards overcoming their addiction, whatever it may be.
The Goal For “Heroine”
My main goal for this film is to submit it to as many film festivals as I can so I can share this important story with a larger audience.
Filmmaker Bio
Hello! My name is Olivia Weintraub, and I’m the writer, director, and cinematographer for the film “Heroine”. I’m a senior in high school at the Morris County School of Technology, in the Visual Performing Arts- Multimedia academy. Throughout my high school career I’ve been a part of many group films, and have had experience in many different production roles. One of my films “Fluid”, for which I was the director, cinematographer, and editor, won the Dance on Film Festival award for the Capturing Motion category. This current film “Heroine” will be my first project completely independent from my school. Rather than making this film for a school project, I am making this film because I am passionate about the story and believe the character’s struggle is not only one that needs to be told and shared, but also one that everybody can relate to, and I hope you can help me make this story come to life!
