The Story
Matt is a young musician in a band on the verge of breaking up as his singer Julia prepares to move across the country to pursue her career aspirations. Instead of accepting defeat and moving on, Matt hatches a last-ditch scheme to keep her in the band. The plan: buy Julia a case of her favorite beer for her going away party hoping she'll drop everything and stay. The only problem is that Matt is underage, so he must enlist the help of a stranger to buy the beer for him. This stranger ends up being Bert, an oddball, washed-up musician that seeks to help out Matt. However, Bert quickly begins to ruin Matt’s plans trying to relive his glory days by hanging out with Matt’s band.
Director's Note
Hey everyone, my name’s Patrick! I’m a graduating senior studying Mass Media Arts at the University of Georgia. I’ve been making fun videos ever since I figured out how to hit record and upload to YouTube ten years ago when I was in middle-school. Since I’ve been at UGA though, I think (or at least hope) my filmmaking skills have drastically improved after working on a number of my friends’ short films. This will be my first project over a minute long that I’ve written and directed, and boy am I excited to tell this story.
The recurring theme of Hey Mister centers on the each of the characters’ unique ways of handling adulthood in their relation to music. While having fun making movies and music as a kid, I slowly grew anxious thinking I’d need to give them up in pursuit of a safer and more conservative career path. While I luckily have a great support system that keeps me confident about my path, some of my peers aren’t so lucky, being told to “grow up and get a real job.” My goal is to tell that the transition to independent adulthood isn't always smooth for everyone, and you don't need to abandon doing what you love in exchange for it . Being both a filmmaker and a musician, I’m looking forward to telling a story of a young creative refusing to let go of the outlet he loves, but still learning to “grow up” in the meantime.
What We Need & What You Get
A wise man once told me that nothing is ever free, and neither is making a movie. Even though the University of Georgia gives us access to some equipment, we will still need to raise money for certain camera and lens rentals. Our crew consists of a group of students volunteering their time for free, so we got to keep them fed on more than just ramen and their dreams of stardom. And your help won't go unnoticed, as you'll receive a plethora of perks based on your donation.

The Impact
Hey Mister is a story about growing up, and it is also a vital part of the growing-up process for many of the crew involved. For many of our crew, this film will serve as the final film project before graduation, and making it will undoubtedly be an invaluable life experience. For many of you, this will shape up to be a fun and exciting story to watch, which will also undoubtedly be an invaluable life experience.
Other Ways You Can Help
The most important thing any fresh film needs are eyes to watch it- so help us spread the word! We will begin filming in mid-February and have lots of news on our Facebook page before, during, and after our shoots. And if you're unable to donate, feel free to share our page with any friends or family. And just remember, you rock.
