What is Hiraeth about?

Hiraeth is a story about a patient in a mental hospital who relives the trauma of his childhood repetitively every day. As his conscience travels to his younger selves, a series of bizarre events happens and disrupts the reality as he knows. It's revealed at the end that he created an ideal life as a mean to escape his own, and found peace by the most disturbing way.

Director Vision Statement

Hiraeth is inspired by a struggling period of my life and created during the healing process.

I remember being a happy kid. Somewhere along the way, something changed. I feel sorry to myself that growing up my mind has changed. If I could go back to the mindset I had, I would tell my younger self to let go. Forget and keep doing me... because now trying to stay centered on whom I am without getting distracted by all the noise, is hard.

My visual inspiration comes from the Korean director Bong Joon-Ho's movies Parasite and Mother, as well as Bird Box, and the German TV show Dark to portray the building suspense and desaturated colors of blue tint and green hint. That is, for the dark and moody 'present' older Kerwyn.

Younger 'past' Kerwyn moments will attire a much more welcoming tone using warm and vintage colors.

I wish for visuals to go from lively to cold as Kerwyn ages in order to physically visualize the progression of his internal struggles.

We Need You

Where is your money going?

With our goal of $3000:

It is NOT going to us, but rather to the production of the film.

Although we aim to put as much money as we can to the production to make it better, we need to make sure the cast and crew are well fed. Other things to consider includes: makeup, hair, interior design, costumes design and props design, sound design, car rental and gas, festivals entrance fee... (please refer to image below)

Health and Safety on Set

We will have qualified COVID-19 staff present on set to insure everyone's safety. Anyone working on set is required to wear a mask at all times. Face shield is required for close-proximity tasks. Hand sanitizer is required at the entrance, every time.

Left Over Funds:

We are aiming to have enough loose budget left to put aside for submitting our short film to film festivals.
