About the Project and Its Creator
My name is Dylan Tyler and I am the creator, writer and director of the new T.V. series, "Hoodlums." I am a Fine & Performing Arts graduate from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre & Film. Currently, I am a freelance filmmaker in the Atlanta area trying to bring my vision to televisions across the country, as it has always been my dream to create powerful, original content.
To achieve this goal, I have spent the past two and a half years conceptualizing and writing the entire series. My next question was: How do I make this real for the person who won't spend the time reading a 60 page pilot? I decided: why read what you can watch? So, I spent what little money I had (about $1K) to bring Hoodlums to the big screen. Now, I'm asking you to help me get HALF of that ($500), so I can bring Part II to the big screen, as well.
From there, I will continue to market Hoodlums, submit it to film festivals AND I will pitch it to studio executives to bring ALL of Hoodlums (not just 5 minutes) to those television across country I was talking about earlier. Let's get this thing from YouTube to HBO or Netflix!

The Impact
I believe that this project is a unique story that has yet to be told. Especially in this racially- charged, highly- political climate, I believe a story about someone who is not only looking for an identity, but one that challenges racial boundaries and stereotypes, is uniquely pertinent. It also helps that this show has some sex appeal, as well.
Shows like Entourage, the Sopranos, The Wire and Sons of Anarchy, explore not only the identity of the main character, but also establish the culture of the group around the show's main character. Hoodlums is constructed similarly; there is no true good-guy or bad-guy. This character-driven drama is meant to explore all of humanity--good and bad--to show where certain paths lead us--and how quickly they lead us there. This show is built for success because it follows that formula. The idea is to explore fictional characters in a real world--and, in most cases, the characters are based on real people.
Risks & Challenges
While money has been a hurdle, by far, the biggest challenge has been my overall lack of resources. I wrote, directed, produced, acted in and edited this show from start to its current state. While it is not perfect, it's a great launching off of point since I have had no help around me.
Due to this, I plan to finish the second part of this scene, and then sell it to someone who can take it further. I have enjoyed the past two and a half years and I look forward to working on this show as long as possible. But, at some point, you hope that someone else can come in and help do some of the heavy lifting..
Other Ways You Can Help
Some people just can't contribute, but that doesn't mean they can't help Please, like, share and tell your friends. Even if you haven't a dime to spare, perhaps they do! And, how cool would it be to say, in a year or two, "I helped get that show on T.V."?
And that's all there is to it.
