Hot Box is brought to you by some talented Edmonton-based filmmakers. The production team consists of Brandon Rhiness, Lindsay Christopher, Julie Whelan and Katie Gobert.
Writer/Director Brandon Rhiness’s first full-length movie, Cold Comfort, just received a distribution deal from Global Genesis Group and he hopes his follow-up film will reach even higher levels of success!
Hot Box is a hilarious stoner comedy with several intersecting stories taking place at a raging house party. Much of the movie takes place in a car where people go to smoke weed.
We have a lot of cool people already on board this project, including Killinger/Sunset’s Trip singer Crazy Dave and Uncle Hack from the Danger Cats.

What We Need & What You Get
Hot Box is a low-budget indie movie and we’re only $4,000 away from our target budget.
We have some awesome perks to give away. They include comic books written by Hot Box director Brandon Rhiness, really cool glass Hot Box pipes, a chance for a walk-on role in the film and the opportunity to become an official producer. So check out the perks and see what catches your eye.
$4,000 may not seem like very much for a movie budget, but for a low-budget indie movie like ours, it will go a long way and we appreciate all the help we can get!
The Impact
Between actors and crew, Hot Box will employ a lot of talented, creative people.
Everyone involved in making Hot Box has a track record of success in film and experience working together.
Brandon and Katie produced Cold Comfort together (which we mentioned earlier),
Brandon and Lindsay co-produced the short horror film The Painting of Ebony Shaw together. Brandon wrote and directed, Lindsay starred. The film was nominated for Best Short Film and Best Actress at the Edmonton International Festival of Fear!
And Julie Whelan just finished production on her first short film, Hide Away, that she wrote and starred in. Brandon directed and Katie was Director of Photography.
So we have quite the team working together and Hot Box is our most ambitious project yet! We can’t believe the response we’ve received so far to our film. It seems like everyone is coming out, willing to help!
The only step left is to finish raising the money so we can make it happen for real!
Risks & Challenges
Like with every movie, there will be challenges, but there’s nothing we can’t overcome. We have talented people involved who can think on their feet and overcome any obstacle.
We’re putting lots of effort into pre-production and planning. We can handle anything that comes our way!
