I'll keep it simple. We love horror movies and, if you're on this page, we'll assume you do too! As horror fans we don't think they're making enough old school slashers anymore. We yearn for the days of Halloween, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Burning where a new fun, cool and scary slasher was coming every month. So we decided, lets make the movie we want to see. That's exactly what Hush is. It's an old school, 80's horror film with a modern twist. We've got a whole new killer a whole new group of kids and a whole new set of kills for you.

Slasher films are definitely one of the favourites here at WAIH, there is just something about watching teenagers get ripped open that makes us smile from ear to ear. Matthew and Charlotte promise an old school slasher film dropped into a modern coming of age film. Needless to say, this sound right up our alley.

So who are we?
We're a group of filmmakers from the sleepy Isle of Wales in the UK. We are Matthew and Charlotte, a couple of film nerds who work in a theatre who dream of making a horror movie they can one day watch inside of one. We are making this film because we love movies! We hope you like what you see!
Hush is a horror movie. A slasher to be more specific. It's deeply rooted in the slasher movies of the 80's and takes inspiration from the classics in order to craft a new horror story centred around a new killer and a new mythology. The story is simple, a group of teenagers throw a Halloween/birthday party when a local legend is awakened for a night of blood and death. The teenagers in question are all struggling with the trials and tribulations of being a student, relationships and burgeoning adulthood. The film asks the question: what if you dropped a serial killer into a coming of age film. While being very much a horror movie, 'Hush' takes inspiration from classic John Hughes movies like 'The Breakfast Club' as it sees a mismatched group of teenagers dealing with adulthood before dropping a serial killer into the mix to pick them off one by one.
"We have attempted to write a story that uses the slasher film format as a way of analysing childhood fears of growing older and the fear of losing your voice in the adult world."
What is the vision for the film? Some of our favourite films include the works of Italian masters Dario Argento, Mario Bava and Lucio Fulci and so while Hush is deeply rooted in the traditions of old school American horror, there is a distinctive Giallo vibe to the look and feel of the film. We're going for intense orange, red and black colours for many of the key scenes and want a thumping and atmospheric synth driven score.
Horror master Dario Argento's 'Susperia' was a huge influence on the look on the film. We want to marry Carpenter's slow, deliberate cinematography from Halloween and Halloween II with the colour and violence of a Giallo horror film all the while employing our own voice, characters and mythology. Hush is a new world, a new story and a new slasher film built on the foundation of a genre filled with some of the most creative films ever made.
Hush is our first feature film at Definitely Criminal. After years of working on various shorts (some of which are included below) and working on other productions we wanted to make the leap into feature filmmaking. So what we are hoping to do is raise up enough money to include in with all the maxed out credit cards and loans we'll be adding in order to make our film. We want this to look awesome and so, with the help of our amazing crew of special effects artists, we want to keep it practical. That is what our goal of £1,500 is for, practical effects, costumes and our location; the bread and butter of a good slasher film.
In addition to putting in our own money as directors and filmmakers we need to raise £1,500 here. There are a number of reason why we chose crowdfunding. First and for most we feel that a film like Hush is being made as not only a love letter to the genre but as a love letter to horror fans and so the opportunity to interact with the community was one we couldn't pass up. We want to keep this movie as practical as possible in keeping with the movies that influenced us. That's why you'll see we've budgeted a large portion of the money for Make Up Effects in the chart below. We're DIY filmmakers. Backyard effects guys and girls. If we want a shot we're willing to bleed in order to get it. We're putting our everything into making this the movie we want to see and we hope you do to!
So what are our perks? We wanted to keep it simple. Basically, our idea was that you are pre-ordering your copy of the blu-ray in order to help us get the movie made:
We've got Full HD Digital Copies of the film priced at a reasonable £5 ($7.81) which will include two commentaries from cast and crew.
Then we've got the Special Edition Digital Copy which has a Full HD copy of the film with commentaries and much more as well as a digital booklet.
Next theres the Standard DVD copy with commentaries and a Digital Copy of the film in Full HD.
Lastly we have the Special Edition DVD copy with all the extras and cool box art with a printed booklet and the Special Edition Digital Copy in Full HD.
As well as this we have a whole host more perks including posters, T-Shirts, producer credits and more!
Here are a just a few examples of our previous work from our short 'The Perfect Woman' written by Matthew Trask and Directed by Charlotte Lomax (who also stars) to 'Dark Places' and 'Resounds'.
Here are some stills and behind the scenes snaps from our other short 'Dark Places' directed by Matthew Trask, which is coming soon.
Here is 'The Perfect Woman' a short Directed by Charlotte Lomax and Written by Matthew Trask. The film was made in just one day with a crew of three people and was inspired by themes of loneliness and relationships. (The score is from 'Under The Skin' which is awesome but we don't own!)
Here is a short made by Adam Davies and starring Hannah Auld and Charlotte Lomax from the Hush team.
