Silo City Reading series presented by
Just Buffalo has invited me to build an art installation inside of the Marine A Grain Silo for the 2016 Reading Series. Silo City marks one of the most iconic historic landmarks of Buffalo’s history. These giant structures provided employment, commerce, opportunity, and advancement for Buffalo. Although these structures no longer serve the original purpose, they are now bringing the city a rich cultural space.![]()

Events such as performances, readings, and art installations re-contextualize the space allowing the community to relish in the 120 ft tall cylinders’ magical echo. The echo within the space is what was most inspiring to me. The Grain Silos create a dialogue between the audience and the performer. This provides an intimacy unlike any other space.

Upon beginning this project I was overcome with the feeling of love and respect for the Grain Silos. Speaking with the owners of the space, I immediately understood their passion and dedication to preserving use of the long standing structures; to be utilizing the structures for new creative energy. As the idea developed, the sense of community grew stronger. This left me with a feeling I have never felt in my work before. As my ideas evolve as an artist, I realize the true reward for creating is sharing an experience in an unexpected manner. In my eyes, I can only explain this phenomenon as love. Love for human connection, community, and creative preservation. I sincerely would like people to feel this energy that I have felt throughout this creative process, by providing them an interactive experience.
Thank you to my incredible sponsors for making this project happen!
