FAQ
1. When will the smartwatch be shipped?
We will begin shipping devices in July 2017. Check back on our website and our Indiegogo page for the latest updates!
2. How much will the monthly monitoring cost?
After your free year of monitoring, the iBeat watch monthly monitoring fee will be $17. There is no commitment to sign up, but should you choose to continue the monitoring service, we will notify you that your service needs renewal, and you or a family member can pay this via credit card, PayPal, or check on our secure, online dashboard. We will also support automatic payments and split payments between friends/family members.
3. How does the watch work?
Hypersensitive PPG (photoplethysmogram) sensors continually monitor your heart for life-threatening emergencies, particularly ones that could cause sudden cardiac arrest or a heart attack. The device will be calibrated to each individual user's heartbeat so we can set a proper baseline for what constitutes as a “normal range" and what constitutes as “life-threatening.” If the device detects an oncoming life-threatening incident, it will ask the user if he or she is okay. If the user selects ‘No’ or is unresponsive for more than ten seconds, iBeat will notify the user’s emergency contacts and if necessary, 911. The watch will always ask you if you're having an emergency before taking action to dispatch 911. If it's a false alarm, you'll have ten seconds to tap the watch and say you're okay before we escalate.
4. How can I select which color device I want?
At the end of the campaign, we will reach out to you via email and you may select your iBeat watch color choice(s).
5. Who can wear the iBeat Life Monitor?
The iBeat watch strap can be adjusted ensuring a comfortable fit for wrists of all sizes, but the current version of the iBeat Life Monitor works best on wrists at least 5 inches or larger in circumference.
6. Do I need a cell phone or cellular plan to use this?
No, the iBeat watch has built-in cellular connectivity and is included in the monthly monitoring service fee.
7. What conditions does the iBeat Life Monitor detect for?
Our medical-grade sensors continually monitor your heart for slowing, stopping, or irregular beating that may trigger a life-threatening emergency. The device will be calibrated to each individual user's heart beat so we can make sure we set a proper baseline for what constitutes "normal". For those with an above-average heart rate due to A-fib, for example, we can set the emergency threshold a bit higher or lower depending on the user’s preference. Additionally, the watch will always ask you if you're having an emergency before taking action to dispatch 911. If it's a false alarm, you'll have ten seconds to tap the watch and say you're okay before we escalate. The device is not intended to diagnose, treat, mitigate, cure, or prevent any disease or condition, but is rather a notification device that can immediately alert family, loved ones, and emergency respondents in the case of an emergency.
8. Can people with pacemakers use this?
The iBeat watch operates similar to a cell phone and users with pacemakers should follow guidance from their doctor. It is not meant to replace your pacemaker or defibrillator.
9. How do the family and friend member alerts work?
When you buy an iBeat, you may set up your emergency contacts in our online dashboard. In the case of an emergency, your contacts will be notified via text message, or a call from our dispatch team.
10. How does the battery charging work?
The iBeat watch lasts 5-7 days before needing to be recharged. The device comes with an attachable battery that easily clips on to the side of the watch face, allowing you to wear the watch 24-7, even while charging it. The iBeat Life Monitor only takes one hour to charge. Once your device is fully charged, the battery pack can be plugged into a wall outlet or your USB drive.
11. I’m not tech savvy. Is it easy to set up and use?
Very easy! The iBeat watch comes with large-font, easy-to-follow instructions for setup, and should take no longer than five minutes to get up and running.
12. Can I shower or swim with it?
Yes! The iBeat watch is meant to be worn 24/7 so it is water resistant and can be worn while showering, surfing, swimming, bathing, washing your hands, partaking in ice bucket challenges, etc.
13. Does the watch offer any integration with texting, calendar, tasks, etc. that other smartwatches have?
The iBeat watchwas designed to be a stylish timepiece that can save your life. It does not come pre-loaded with apps, or notify you of calls or text messages like other smartwatches. Instead, it functions more like a traditional watch with added features including customized watch faces, tracking your steps, setting an alarm or a timer, while continually monitoring and analyzing your heart for oncoming life-threatening emergencies.
14. What if you are wearing the device in a no cell coverage area? Will it still work?
The iBeat watch does not need cell coverage to continually monitor and analyze your heart rate, but in an emergency, the device's ability to contact our dispatch team and 911 is dependent on cell connection. Should you happen to be in a no coverage area during an emergency, the device can send out an audible beacon that can alert anyone in your local area.
15. Is it safe to wear on my wrist all day and night?
Of course! The iBeat watch was designed to be worn around-the-clock, and it's an FCC and carrier-certified device that transmits far less frequencies than a standard cell phone. The sensor technology has been thoroughly tested, and it is completely safe to wear on your wrist and skin.
16. Does the device support multiple profiles so that it can be used or shared by more than one person?
Unfortunately, the iBeat watch is a single profile device. When you receive your iBeat, the device will analyze you routine heart rate rhythms and patterns and calibrate itself accordingly. This is how we establish a safe baseline, and also why we offer the iBeat Family Deal...you get two devices for a steal of a deal!
17. Are there plans to offer different colored straps and bands in the near future?
Absolutely! The first version of the iBeat watch will come with a standard black or white silicone-based band that can be adjusted to your wrist size. We plan to add more bands in different colors and materials sometime next year.
18. I'm worried about false alarms. Can I control, or turn off the 911 alerts?
In the event of an emergency, the iBeat watch will always ask you if you're having an emergency before taking action to dispatch 911. If it's a false alarm, you'll have ten seconds to tap the watch and say you're okay before we escalate. Additionally, the watch will notify our dispatch team who can then field the call to 911, preventing any unnecessary false 911 calls.
19. Will I be able to access my health data and share with my doctor?
You, your doctor, or anyone else that you authorize may access our secure online dashboard where you can view your data data including your daily, weekly, and monthly heart rates and patterns, as well as download the raw data.
20. Does iBeat work internationally or offer multi-language support, and where do you ship?
Currently, the iBeat watch is only available in the United States, but we are happy to ship your device anywhere around the world. In the near future, we plan to offer an international version of iBeat with multi-language support.
