I'm Sue Hutton and I'm asking for your partnership on a project close to my heart. I'm creating a debut CD for my new band Indarra. I'm excited to be working with some talented musicians who are bridging genres not commonly brought together. Through a weaving of lush electronica, world percussion, traditional Gaelic, dark ambience and layered guitars, Indarra is creating a new tapestry of sound. With this as our backdrop, we are addressing social justice issues in songs for change. Please join my team and help in making a difference.
To better inform you, many of you may know me from my former band Rhea’s Obsession or work I've done with music in community settings. You may have heard my voice in Battlestar Galactica, La Femme Nikita, CBC, BRAVO television or other TV productions. With Rhea's, I toured the US and Canada, and we were number 1 on College radio charts. We played lots of fundraisers along the way, blending social change and music, a theme which will continue with Indarra. My music has always been an extension of who I am - bringing social causes to light with music that is evocative and compelling. You also may know me from social justice and disability advocacy work.
Fans of Rhea's Obsession have been contacting me for years, asking when I would release something new. Finally the time is here, with my new project Indarra.
I am thrilled to be partnering with the US independent label Metropolis Records for this new project. I am not doing it alone; I've called some of my super talented friends (including percussionists from Rhea's and Juno award winners) and everyone is on board with co-writing and producing new songs with me. We have songs ready to be recorded professionally.
What is Indarra?
Indarra translates from the Basque language to strength, and the project is all about cultivating inner strength; the album will be called Walk On Fire and will give voice to that strength. Indarra will combine the spirit of Rhea’s Obsession with dark world grooves, and promises to be every bit as mesmerizing and entrancing.
The songs are about gaining strength through struggle. Some of the music will feature spoken word pieces from activists I am connected with through disability advocacy work. We are already engaged in social change and this is an opportunity to marry this advocacy with music. Some of the music is influenced by the need for change for women coming out of the prison system. Once the album is released, we'll be working on fundraising for the amazing Elizabeth Fry Society of Toronto. This organization works to support women living in poverty who have come out of prison and are making a new start for themselves and their children.
I’d love to tell you more about these projects if you would like to be involved. Music connects us with our own humanity and with each other – what better way to find strength in these challenging times?
Building Art Together – What Indarra Needs From You
Metropolis Records will manufacture and distribute the album, and help where they can, but the artist (moi!) needs to raise funds to record the album. This is where I'm asking people to join my team to make this album happen. I'm committed to making an incredible professional recording.
I’m reaching out to ask for you to be involved in Indarra as a patron in this debut release. It would be incredible to have you on our team. It's an amazing opportunity to have an independent label willing to manufacture and release the album worldwide. Now I just need to fund the creation of the album, and make Indarra's debut a reality.
Creating a full album of world class, professional quality can easily rise to $15, 000 or above for studio, musician and engineering costs.
PROJECTED COSTS FOR 10 SONG CD RELEASE $15, 000
The goal is to record the CD June 2018 and have it completed for release by September 2018. The projected costs include musician fees, production and mixing fees, studio costs, art & design costs. The funds will also go to pay activists in the disability community involved in directing a spoken word collaboration with music. (With vision to then make a video).
With this campaign, I am starting with a target of $5000 toward these costs. If we are successful, I will stretch the goal. I will also be applying for smaller grants through Ontario's arts programs. Metropolis will assist where they can. The budget will be shared with all supporters, so you will know exactly where your money is going.

How Your Support Makes A Difference
The music industry is not actively paying musicians the way it used to, with free music so available once you subscribe to streaming sites like Spotify and Apple Music. It's a different world, so your support of musicians creating music for social change is SO APPRECIATED!
Any size donation is amazing and everyone who donates will be part of the Indarra team. With a donation of a certain size, your name will be on the album, and with larger donations there are things I’d love to offer you, such as a special house concert. There will also be a special inclusive and intimate event planned for all funders. Details are included when you offer support. (Thank you!!)
I’m excited for Indarra and hope you’ll join me in helping to create some innovative and incredible music that will contribute to social justice.
Thank you with all my heart! Sue
