OUR STORY
For many, climate change has always been an abstract and intangible crisis floating in the air. Unfortunately, it has ceased to be just a myth, conspiracy, or just another news item. It has landed on the forefronts - deserts, highland mountains, island nations, and the polar arctic - home to millions of indigenous peoples.
Thus we begin with our first project: A documentary film - that will defy everything you thought you knew about climate change and everything you thought of indigenous people.
WHY SUPPORT THIS PROJECT
Because we urgently need to look at climate change from a REAL perspective, and indigenous peoples around the world may just help us do this. If we don't give it a shot, we might just end up staying clueless and defenseless. The web of global economy makes us more and more likely to feel the effects of climate change anywhere in the world, shrinking the earth even smaller, linking geographically distant ecosystems, societies, economies and cultures. There is a lot to learn from the people whose knowledge is invaluable to extreme living - knowledge that has depended on and at the same time guarded nature. As global warming had solicited varied responses with its alarming, foreboding and end-of-days overture, it is high time that hope instead of fear is spread about. And the best place to start is indigenous.
WHAT WE NEED
We need to raise about 200 grand to actually make this film. That part we'd like film and research grants to take care of. But first! We have to present a work-in-progress trailer to successfully win these grants. That's why we are asking for your kind help so we can have that seed money of US$10,000 to cover travel and shooting expenses plus some post-production. We are looking at traveling within the US to interview some Native Americans. You'll be surprised at the amount of information we all are missing out on!
About a third of the funds raised here will also be used to mobilize local contacts from different parts of the world so that we can set up our online campaign (also to be included in the trailer). This money will be translated to logistical requirements such as local travel, internet and camera set-ups, and possibly courier services (for our 'roving' camera). We currently have local and indigenous connections in Kenya, Finland, Canada, the Philippines, Pakistan and Samoa.
