Short Summary
Welcome "Into Wild Vancouver", the first urban wildlife television series that will take you every week from your couch and into the wilderness right outside your back door. Our campaign is raising money for the production of the "Into Wild Vancouver" series pilot, as well as provide proof to potential network partners that there is an audience for an urban wildlife series set in Vancouver.
Meet The Team
Producer | Host : Joel Reimer
Joel is an Abbotsford-born native of Greater Vancouver. Because Joel has years of experience as a wilderness camp counselor, and a passion for local wildlife, he decided to create "Into Wild Vancouver". A veteran journalist and Vancouver Film School-educated producer, Joel has worked in Vancouver on everything from large network television programs to independent films.
Co-Host: Jenn Kobelt
Jenn is an Abbotsford-born native of Greater Vancouver. A graduate from Vancouver Film School's prestigious acting program, Jenn will be co-hosting "Into Wild Vancouver" along with our series producer. Her passion for nature, and the wildlife found there within, drives the team deeper and deeper in discovery of Vancouver's wild side.
Why Is "Into Wild Vancouver" important?
"I grew up watching programs like Kratts Creatures and Crocodile Hunter that would take me every week into the Australian outback. Each week I would get excited to share in the adventures of Steve Irwin and the Kratts brothers, as they explored exotic locations, teaching me all about animals I would never encounter on my own, growing up.
Dreaming of going out on safaris, into the depths of the outback, or exploring the Great Coral Reef, I aspired to be just like Steve when I grew up. Not only did I want to be a magnificent film maker, but to make a difference in the world with those gifts. I spent large amounts of time learning about the exotic animals found in Australia, New Zealand and Africa. As I grew older reality began to sink in that young people are waking up every day, not knowing about the amazing wildlife right in their own backyards.
"Into Wild Vancouver" was born. A television series that teaches audiences about the magnificent animals found around their own city not in some far away exotic land. Learning about local Canadian wildlife, our audience will see first hand the ecosystems that they impact directly. Into Wild Vancouver is a show that will be personal to every single viewer." - Joel Reimer (Producer of Into Wild Vancouver)
What Impact Could My Contribution Make?
Creating an urban television series like "Into Wild Vancouver" has the potential of making a huge impact on our wildlife. In Vancouver, wildlife habitats are becoming increasingly endangered due to pollution, rural, corporate and industrial developments. Educating people about ecosystems in our city and country at risk, is an important part of ensuring their preservation.
The pilot episode of "Into Wild Vancouver" is a perfect example of our series' potential impact. It will be focused entirely on spreading awareness to the plight of Vancouver's iconic Orca. Did you know that only 77 resident Orca whales remain off the coast of Vancouver? As we produced our series' Indiegogo campaign video, sadly one of these majestic creatures passed away.

Producing a new television series in Canada is extremely difficult, especially one like "Into Wild Vancouver". By contributing a donation, regardless of it's size, you will be going a long way to making the series become a reality. Not only will your financial assistance help us produce the pilot episode, your contribution will enable us to prove we have an audience, when we approach network partners.
What We Need
We need at least $15,000 to produce the pilot episode of "Into Wild Vancouver". This money is required to pay for permits, transportation and equipment. For our pilot episode, we will be renting a whale-watching boat and taking you right into the wild waters of Vancouver, in search of the endangered Orca. In order to meet the safety standards and abide by all of Canada's laws, we will need permits and insurance policies for our cast and crew. Lastly, the equipment required for our pilot episode, to meet basic network standards, is actually fairly costly.
When we reach our main goal of $15,000 we will be able to produce the pilot episode for Into Wild Vancouver on the lowest possible budget.
Stretch Goals
$40,000
We will invest in a Sony AX1 production camera, as well as a drone, to immerse you even deeper into the action of "Into Wild Vancouver". Our staff will be offered standard industry rates, enabling them to
dedicate more time to the project, helping further ensure that the programs quality
standards are on par with that of any other wild life show on television.
$60,000
We will create two episodes of a "Into Wild Vancouver" web series, which will launch in advance of the pilot episode. This series will give fans something to watch as the producer is searching for potential network partners.
$80,000
We will take some of the production team to Ontario to meet with network heads in a way that will help us find a home for "Into Wild Vancouver". We will also attempt to take "Into Wild Vancouver" to MIPCOM 2016 (Marché Internationale de
Programmes Communications 2016), in order to seek foreign broadcast partners for season 1.
$160,000
We
will develop a completely free "Into Wild Vancouver" mobile phone application for children
to learn about local wild life found in the Greater Vancouver region.

Further plans will be revealed if our stretch goal of $160,000 is met.

Risks
There are risks involved with producing any television series, but the largest one is that we may not reach our funding goal of $15,000. If not, there is a chance that the pilot wont get completed.
Challenges
Producing a television pilot on only $15,000 is always a challenge. Most television series have far larger budgets. With a $15,000 budget, our biggest challenge will be the lack of high-end equipment and an inability to pay staff industry rate. The production team of "Into Wild Vancouver" will be virtually volunteering. We will be putting almost all of your contributions into improving the production value of the pilot.
Specific challenges
- We will need to negotiate a discounted price with equipment rental houses.
- While all staff will be paid an honorarium, it will be below industry standard, meaning we might lose some of our post and production crews to better paid gigs, forcing us to hire new people.
- Shooting whales on a high-end consumer camera (Sony AX100b) is more difficult than if we reach our stretch goal, and can afford a professional television industry standard camera (Sony AX1).
- We will only be out on the water with the Orcas for one production day, and it will be a challenge to get the best footage possible for our pilot. Sadly, wild mammals don't like to pose for pictures.
If we reach our stretch goal of $40,000, all of those challenges will be mitigated. With 40,000$ the team will be paid industry rate, and we will be able to afford superior high end equipment.
