Elevator Pitch 

The space shuttle ‘Intrepid’ is seemingly destroyed when a mission to repair a satellite in lunar orbit goes awry and suffers some kind of explosive, catastrophic failure.

 ‘Spacer’ Astronauts Jason Stornoway and veteran Charles Sutton are conducting a test flight of the prototype 'Workhorse-1' when they are caught in the blast wave and engulfed by a bright, eerie light.

As they emerge from the disorientating whiteness they are shocked to see a strange new alien world before them. 

Out of fuel, caught in a gravity well and hopelessly plummeting to the planet below, the astronauts find themselves facing imminent doom.

But before they are incinerated in the atmosphere of the alien world they are miraculously rescued by a massive vessel that swallows their entire craft whole!

They discover the vessel is a ‘Star-city’ designed and built by ‘The Vayron’, an extremely powerful, advanced intergalactic civilisation. The Vayron administrator informs our heroes that they’re lost in a distant part of the universe known as ‘The Ring’, A pan-galactic trading bloc, with no way to return home.

They also learn that the space shuttle ‘Intrepid’ arrived before them and that all of their crewmates, except one, are alive and scattered throughout several galaxies.  Upon learning this the two astronauts resolve to put aside their personal feelings and begin exploring this entirely foreign part of the universe and reunite with their colleagues. 

But as they begin their new adventure, a tense situation forming billions of miles away puts them in the sights of an aggressive Vayron Fleet commander who has found evidence that humans may be behind the collapse of a powerful rival civilisation and has vowed to do whatever it takes to uncover the truth of this insidious plot.

A Message From The Author

'Intrepid' has been on my mind for the last 5 years. It is a story that I have grown to love and one that is inspired by the science fiction comics, television and movies that captured my imagination as a young boy.

This is a story about the best characteristics of humanity; bravery, responsibility, purpose and most of all integrity.

The story itself is a sci-fi 'fish out of water' adventure with themes about moving forwards, facing the unknown, dealing with loss and not giving into fear.

Who Is Intrepid For…

This story is written for the 12 year old me. But it is a story that the 47 year old me absolutely loves. 

How I would describe my story…

The closest thing to it nowadays would be ‘Guardians of The Galaxy', which itself is heavily based on one of my favourite shows ‘Farscape’.

In tone, It's more like 'Buck Rogers In the 25th Century' and 'Flash Gordon'. 

It explores how the best parts of humanity make us relevant and important wherever we find ourselves. It is also heavily influenced by classic Sci-Fi like ‘War of The Worlds’, 'When The World Stood Still' and Disney's (underrated Star Wars cash in attempt) 'The Black Hole'.

What is Narrabox?

Narrabox Comics Publishing Ltd is a fledgling British publishing company that I am proud to be a part of. Narrabox doesn’t view itself as part of an ‘industry’ but rather as part of a community.

We want to make comics accessible to new and existing fans without diminishing the medium, with titles that cater to the audiences they are for.

To provide value and keep comics accessible and mindful of children.

These may not seem like life changing goals but in the current climate of mining comics for ideas and using comics only as a testing ground for more mainstream mediums is something we will avoid.

The secondary ambition of Narrabox is to build an animation studio to create great stories that integrate our comics with its more natural partner of ‘animation’. This means we might not be making a decade long, live action, shared cinematic universe anytime soon; but a story, from us that you know and love, will move to another medium without the emotional turmoil involved in such an endeavour. The goal is to create a new expanded experience, not loose adaptations.

Ah…There is a secret tier that will only unlock at a later point in the campaign life cycle and since this is our first campaign, this is your chance to set the tone for what you want to see, for this and subsequent campaigns. You can do this by telling us what perks you would like us to offer.

Once the campaign is over all our backers will be added to the backer mailing list and be offered continuing perks and discounts for all future projects.

Results

This is a ‘flexibly funded’ campaign meaning that we will be launching ‘Intrepid’ regardless of whether we hit our target or not. So if you back issue 1, there will be 3 more issues coming.

We’ll be selling copies of our comics directly from our website www.narrabox.com and we’re currently talking to local and national retailers about stocking this miniseries once the campaign has ended.

After 'Intrepid' is launched we hope to follow up with a customer led anthology series that will showcase our planned titles. 

The pages of this series will be in newspaper print, to lower costs and will be made available for all backers in the campaign at a future date. This anthology series will be the 'Proving Grounds' for upcoming story ideas so that only stories that resonate with audiences will be developed.

Initial Backers feedback will be the main emphasis of where we go as a company.
