INVITED IN - A brief synopsis.....
Invited In centers around an anxious and timid freshman named Annie, who finds herself mid pandemic realizing how isolated she has been her whole life. The feeling is heightened because of the pandemic which forces her to get out of her comfort zone and connect with someone. She makes her first “real” friend through social media with Emmy, the bright and “genuine” lifestyle influencer over Zooms until Annie is exposed to how artificial online friendships can be.

Directors Statement
It's been hard to be honest with myself and how I've been feeling or dealing with the pandemic.
I felt this immediate need (and still do) to connect during the past year. Every social hangout (online or in-person) felt like a balancing act of comfort and hyper-aware anxiety. In those moments I felt desperate that every hangout was "THE ONE". I was craving human connection. On the other end, I would find moments when I didn't want to connect at all and bask in the growth of being comfortable with being alone. A huge part of this anxiety stemmed from how I was presenting myself online, I could feel how inauthentic I was being. It's all a facade, and we all know it's a facade. Yet I was desperate to keep up with the perception of being social, trendy, and 'normal' despite how empty I was feeling. The two main characters in this film represent that dichotomy that swung like a pendulum.
I want you to take a moment and really think about how important connection has been for you this past year? How have you connected with people? Virtually? In-person? Chatting? Have you taken the time to connect with yourself? What have you learned about the importance of human connection when we have adapted to isolation in so many different forms?
I believe human connection is the very reason why I love creating and telling stories. It is also the very thing that has brought me comfort during this year where we have become accustomed to social distancing, quarantining, and isolating. Human connection is an important gift that we shouldn't take for granted and serves us all from joy to understanding.
