Hi! My name is Meg. I'm an artist, drag queen, drag mother, and overall lover of everything glamorous.
A year ago, I created a show called It's Not Personal, It's Drag as my senior project to close out my theatre degree. The show was a hit, taught tons of people about drag and the gay community, and left everyone feeling fierce. This year, I'm bringing the show back, and better than ever! The only thing is...we need your help. Before, the tech aspects were available to me, but this time, all of it is coming out of my pocket. Any help you can give, even if it's just $1, will mean the world to us and make an impact on the success of the show. My goals for this year?
- Reach out and market to audiences beyond the immediate gay community
- Teach audiences about drag and constructs of gender
- Inspire audience members to go out and see more local drag
What We Need & What You Get
- With the registration fee, light rental, sound rental, materials to transform the space we're in, posters/marketing materials and decorations, the costs come to roughly $750. As an individual paying for it solo, I could really use some help so I really can get all of the materials I need and make these queens look and sound stellar.
- If you donate $5, you'll get your very own signed poster from all of the queens!
- If you donate $10, you'll get a reserved seat in our front row VIP section, a signed poster, and a free Mocktail.
The Impact
Drag is beautiful, drag is grungy, drag is campy, drag is controversial, but most importantly- drag is powerful. I want to bring that power to the Jersey Fringe, because this world needs drag. It’s Not Personal, It’s Drag will deliver you all of the charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent that you need for the rest of the year. The goal is to “wear crowns, fuck with gender, bend the rules, don’t surrender” (in the words of Sasha Velour, season nine winner of Rupaul’s Drag Race) and ultimately entice audiences to get out to see and support local drag, because the art form supports us all.
